Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion Cadets attended the Treasure Coast Vietnam Veterans Association’s candlelight POW/MIA service on the 21st of September at the Veterans Memorial Park in Port St. Lucie.  Cadets paid reverence to Floridia Service Members who were taken prisoner of war and/or declared missing in action. Cadets who attended the ceremony felt moved and honored to participate and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. On Saturday, September 15, 2018, cadets from the Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion joined four other high school Battalions at Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) in Fellsmere, Florida. The cadets negotiated through various obstacles that tested their skill, strength, and ability to overcome hardships. Cadets participated in a hands-on experiences including Marine and Aerial Assault obstacle courses. Port St. Lucie High School students attended a ceremony during third period on September 11, 2018, to recognize and recollect the tragedy that happened on September 11, 2001. The ceremony began with the Presentation of Colors by the Jaguar Battalion’s Color Guard commanded by Cadet Captain Brianna Harris, accompanied by Cadet Sergeant Justin Locklar as state flag, Cadet Sergeant Alexis Morris as national guard and Cadet Sergeant Shane Canady as state guard. Port St. Lucie High School had its second game of the season at 7pm, Friday night on August 24, 2018. Our Cadets set out for the parking lots around 5pm to collect fees and welcome our guests. Our Jaguar Battalion’s JROTC Color Guard kicked off the night with the presentation of the colors commanded by Sergeant First Class Lawrence Moleon-Mathews, with Sergeant Justin Bennett as the state flag, Corporal Alex Nangle as state guard, and Sergeant Justin Locklar as national guard. On Friday, August 17th at 7 PM, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion assisted the first varsity football game of the season. The new cadets who signed up were eager to help and see what these honor guards had to offer for them. The cadets collected parking fees and donations as well as directed the guests into the parking lots. The cadets enjoyed themselves, got to know each other, and observed each other’s leadership skills shine through. On August 10, 2018, Port St. Lucie High School facilitated laptop distribution and assigned laptops to upperclassmen (10th grade and up). When students and parents entered the school, they were greeted by multiple Jaguar Battalion cadets who were ready to guide them and answer any questions they might have. Guests entered the Media center to make their payment and received schedules for the school year. Then, they were directed to the cafeteria where additional cadets assisted in handing out laptops and laptop chargers.  Cadet 1st Sergeant Elyas Cardenas is pictured at his post located in the cafeteria.    

On Wednesday August 8, 2018, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion aided the incoming freshmen at open house, the school’s first event. The cadets of JROTC helped incoming students with finding their classes and enrolled many new cadets into the program. Fifty new eager cadets were assigned that day. Cadets working this event felt encouraged to reach out to young motivated students who want to better themselves and their community. On April 26th at 6PM, the Port Saint Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion hosted their annual Change of Command ceremony. Relieving the current Battalion Commander of his duty c/LTC Travis Cetin welcomes c/LTC Veronika Patti to command and led the Battalion on a successful path. Pictured below is Mr. Jerry Earley as the Commander performing the tradition of “Passing of the Colors.”  The Change of Command is a simple, traditional event that is rich with symbolism and heritage.  The distinguished guest for the ceremony was Assistant Chief Richard Del Toro, of the Port St. Lucie Police Department.

On April 7th the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Drill Team competed in the State Drill Meet in Lakeland, FL at George Jenkins High School. With the hard work and diligence from the team, the Jaguars’ Drill Team ended their season on a great note.

On March 1, 2018, the Jaguar Battalion participated in the Freshman Open House at Port St. Lucie High School. The Battalion hosted a color guard composed of four cadets: c/1SG Kalinowski, c/CPT Harris, c/MAJ May, and c/CPL Garcia. Furthermore, the Battalion was able to recruit a multitude of promising new cadets for next school year.

On February 14, 2018, the JROTC Jaguar Battalion had our annual Service Learning event. At this event our cadets retired unserviceable flags from public buildings and military bases.  We had U.S. veterans attend, along with our Jaguar band and Mr. Frazer’s class. The master of ceremony was C/ Major Syanna Graham.  

On February 10th and 11th, the Jaguar Battalion participated in the annual Port St. Lucie Botanical Garden Plant Sale. From 9:00 am to 4:00 pm both days, a Battalion cadet helped plant shoppers carry multiple plants or heavy plants to their vehicles. Participation in this event was a win-win for the Botanical Gardens as well as for the cadet who earned community service hours and donations for the Battalion.

The 24th Annual Jaguar Military Ball took place on January 26th. This event, valued by the battalion, was an outstanding evening highlighted with  c/ MAJ Syanna Graham as madam vice and Principal Adrian Ocampo as a guest speaker. Both the  food and the music were excellent. Cadets, parents, and guests enjoyed an evening of dancing. The Battalion eagerly anticipates next year’s Ball.

The Port St. Lucie High School’s Drill Team competed in the W. T. Dwyer High School Drill Meet on Saturday February 3rd.  Competing in platoon, squad, and exhibition drill and winning in several categories, the Jaguars placed in the top three. The Jaguars will continue to practice for their next meet at Seminole Ridge High School Drill meet.

The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion showed their pride at the annual Martin Luther King, Junior Day Parade in Fort Pierce.  Marching in this parade is a tremendous honor and privilege for Port St. Lucie High. The Battalion formation led by the Jaguar’s Color Guard was commanded by Cadet Captain Morgan Emerson carrying the National Flag. Cadet Major Tesa May carried the State Flag. On Wednesday, November 8, the Port St. Lucie High School JROTC went to Village Green Elementary to teach about flag folding and about the Class B uniform to first graders and to fifth graders. The JROTC cadets taught the meaning of the colors and each fold in the American Flag.

On Saturday, November 11th, the JROTC Jaguar Battalion participated in the honoring of all veterans. Alongside Air Force JROTC, Navy JROTC and veterans dating back to WWII, the Jaguar Battalion stood in honor of those who fought to keep our country safe.

This past weekend, Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Honor Guard helped in assisting staff at the Children’s Emporium. The Honor Guard helped staff with supervising children, setting up games and activities, as well as, cleaning up after the event.
