Last week, Fairlawn Elementary’s fourth-graders traded their desks and textbooks for hiking trails and discovery as they visited the Oxbow Eco-Center. Fairlawn Elementary’s second graders put their engineering skills to the test during a fun and creative STEM activity called “Valentine’s Day Sticky Structures!” Students used heart-shaped fruit snacks and toothpicks to complete 12 different shape-building challenges. From triangles and squares to more complex geometric designs, students carefully constructed each shape while learning about stability, angles, and teamwork. The excitement filled the room as Ms. Candy introduced two adorable animal friends — Mario the guinea pig and Bowser the bunny.
