Lorri Rudzinski’s second grade class at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition completed a Thinking Map flee map using the Common Core standard of demonstrating understanding of characters, setting and plot using the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Things get ‘slimy’ at Garden City family day

Families learned about chemical reactions, density and Newtonian and Non-Newtonian liquids at a recent family activity day at Garden City Early Learning Academy sponsored by The Parent Academy. There’s a ‘Battle of the Books’ in middle school at Allapattah Flats K8

Allapattah Flats middle school staff and students recently competed in Battle of the Books. Each grade group had their own battle which was conducted as a game show. Sixth grade students read Freak the Mighty.  Sixth grade students were victorious and won the battle clearly showing their superior reading efforts. Seventh and eighth grade students and teachers read “The Hunger Games”. Theatre Group Performs at Manatee Academy

Manatee Academy 4th and 5th grades were enraptured by the performance of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by The Riverside Children’s Theatre professional group this week. Students and teachers have been reading the Narnia books for the last month and thought this interactive interpretation was “Awesome!”

The Works of Jim Dine

A collection of artworks from twelve young Lincoln Park Academy artists are being displayed at Art Connection Gallery in the Arcade Building, 101 US-1 (and Orange Ave.) in Ft Pierce.  The students from Lisa Steffens-Smith class have been studying the contemporary artist Jim Dine.  All student work is a representation of the artist. An opening reception has taken place in the gallery.  Exhibitions will be open to the public until November 30th. The Walking Classroom at Floresta Elementary

The Sweet Truth About Text Evidence at St. Lucie West K-8

St. Lucie West K-8 students in Ms. Roberts’ 2nd Grade class enjoyed a sweet and unforgettable learning experience today! Students practiced their reading skills by using text evidence to answer questions about the life cycle of the “marshmallow tree.” As curiosity grew, students soon discovered the lesson was actually a fun April Fool’s prank! The activity sparked laughter, excitement, and thoughtful discussion, all while reinforcing important reading comprehension strategies. The suspect has been caught! CSI Night at MSE

  Over 300 students, parents, police officers and ROTC members participated in CSI night at MSE.  The students “scientifically” tested clues (blood, finger prints, PH, hair, etc.) to find out who stole the candy jar.  Mr. Graff was the thief!  Thank you, Mrs. Jennings, for another successful CSI night!

The Stars Line Up For Charity at Southport Middle School

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL – An all-star lineup promises to score big for the Southport Middle School (SPMS) National Junior Honor Society’s (NJHS) cancer awareness fundraising efforts. The Stars Came Out at Parkway

In an effort to better engage families this school year, Parkway Elementary, of St. Lucie County Schools hosted a family literacy workshop, called REaD Carpet Ready. This fun, interactive family workshop engaged K-5 parents and their children in a 1.5-hour, red-carpet-themed training program. Parents learned easy-to-implement reading strategies to support their child’s literacy development at home. REaD Carpet Ready workshop allowed families to enter the world of Hollywood celebrities, complete with red carpet, paparazzi and voting on nominees for best-dressed “star”, all while learning how to incorporate an extra 20 minutes of reading into their busy lives. On Saturday May 19th, over 100 parents and their Young Authors gathered to celebrate literacy and the art of writing! The St. Lucie County Reading Council sponsors the celebration annually held at Oak Hammock School. This year over 20 of our schools participated and their representatives were treated to a new book, a guest author presentation by Dr. Lois McGuire who wrote, “Don’t Be That Kid at School” and a special ticket for RUSH, Jenson Beach. The Spirit of Giving

Over 600 St. Lucie Public Schools students received food, clothing, and supplies from generous members of the Elks Lodge #1520 in Fort Pierce. The December 12th delivery schedule started out promising to serve 3 schools, but as donations poured in, the number of schools quickly grew to 13. This growth mirrors the growth in the number of students who benefit from the Elks Backpack Program which supports students throughout the year.
