The St. Lucie County 2018 Young Author Celebration!

On Saturday May 19th, over 100 parents and their Young Authors gathered to celebrate literacy and the art of writing! The St. Lucie County Reading Council sponsors the celebration annually held at Oak Hammock School.

This year over 20 of our schools participated and their representatives were treated to a new book, a guest author presentation by Dr. Lois McGuire who wrote, “Don’t Be That Kid at School” and a special ticket for RUSH, Jenson Beach. Of course there were pictures in the photo booth, awards in calligraphy, (hand written by Trish Gomes) and cookies while our parents read their child’s book and the books of other talented authors from every zone in our county. The Young Authors celebration is a demonstration of our most important literacy standards in action!

If our mission is to ensure that all students graduate from safe and caring schools, equipped with the knowledge, skills and desire to succeed…this celebration clearly shows we are on the right track!
