Thirteen! The Musical – Lincoln Park Academy Theater

The first weekend of November, Lincoln Park Academy Theater presented 13! The Musical. Over the course of seven months, the students worked diligently to learn a plethora of lines, harmonies, and choreography that resulted in an immensely fun and honest performance and a close family bond between cast and crew. This heartwarming show of friendship and morals brought the audience to their feet in applause. It’s safe to say, this hilarious piece of theater was a tremendous toe-tapping success!

Third graders study Greek civilization

Kamryn Gardner and Morgan Busby show off their laurel wreaths while studying ancient Greece. Students in Stacey Johnson’s third grade RTI Enrichment group at F.K. Sweet Elementary are learning about the contributions of this ancient civilization to our modern society. Students discovered the roots of democracy and the Olympic Games. They enjoyed learning about the gods and goddesses and the myths that were told to explain the world around them, practiced writing letters of the Greek alphabet and learned where they are still in use today in our fraternal organizations.

Third graders rack up reading

How many kids does it take to read 20,979,863 words and rack up 8,490 points since the beginning of school in August? Well, it only took 17 third graders in Barbara Whellams’ class at F.K. Sweet Elementary School to accomplish such a task! To reward the students for reaching and surpassing their goal of 300 points each, the students will be treated to a movie matinee and concessions before the end of the school year. Third Graders Garden at Frances K Sweet

Students in Barbara Bennett’s third grade class at Frances K Sweet had wonderful time learning while gardening. The students came to school on Saturday to gain some extra knowledge about plants, in preparation for their upcoming curriculum about plants and animals. Not only did the students come, but their parents also came and participated in this exciting learning experience. The students had an awesome time gardening and sharing their experiences with each other.

Third graders’ favorite book features unsavory character

“Fly Guy” is a favorite read of third grade students at F.K. Sweet Elementary. Fly Guy is a character created by Tedd Arnold, author of more than 50 children’s books. Fly Guy can be found hanging out in garbage cans and eating his favorite foods, anything brown, oozy and smelly. These books are bound to make you smile and students Kayla Jungjohan, Justin Adrian, and Stoney Braynen are proof!

Third graders enjoy yummy math lesson

Third grade students Ajeya Adams and Julian Nunez in Barbara Whellams’ class at F.K. Sweet Elementary enjoyed a yummy math lesson on fractions using M & Ms. The students had several exercises on understanding that fractions can be a part of a whole, or part of a group. Afterwards, the M & Ms mysteriouly disappeared off each student’s desk.

Third Graders at F K Sweet Enjoy Movie Rewards

Jonah DiCuia, Lauren McEwen, Jordan Hunt, and Jenna Franklin were treated to the movies this Saturday by their third grade teacher, Ms. Marla Liberatore for exceeding 200 Reading Counts points in third grade.  Great job!  Keep on reading!

Third Graders at CAST Learn About Space Using Legos

Third grade students in Mrs. Roti’s class were excited to bring the Mars rover landing to life! While learning about Earth in space and time, students began by watching clips of how the Mars rover was built to sustain space travel. Students teamed up as scientists to design and build their own Mars rovers out of Legos.                      

Third grade students compete in spelling bee

Twenty one F.K .Sweet Elementary third graders students participated in the recent spelling bee. After 18 rounds of challenging words, the winners were finally declared. Third-grade Students at White City Elementary School Showcase Their Learning Achievements

White City Elementary third-grade students have been very busy; Mrs. Reid’s and Pizzarello’s math classes were fully engrossed in learning to demonstrate geometric concepts through body signals. Mrs. Sharpe’s class is learning about plant absorption through the celery experiment. Ms. Thompson’s class is busy editing tasks using their newly acquired grammar and writing skills.  Ms. Drawdy’s class proudly shows off their trophy for having the highest proficiency rate on their ELA unit assessment.

Third Grade STEM in Action at Morningside Elementary

Mornings are fun when they begin with STEM learning! In our literature text that we have been reading, Wonder, the main character turned in a project based on pyramids. Today, we identified the different parts of a pyramid and then began constructing different types of pyramids. We tested our pyramids for strength and identified the patterns in the shapes, faces, edges and vertices.

Third Grade Sharks Play Zoink ELA Review

In Mrs. Harvey’s third-grade class at St. Lucie West K8, our excited sharks were preparing for their first English Language Arts unit assessment of the year through an engaging game called Zoink! Students were buzzing with excitement as they worked collaboratively in teams. They were elated to begin. Their central focus was to annotate various passages and identify textual evidence to effectively answer comprehension and vocabulary questions. Third Grade goes Wild at Morningside

Third-grade students at Morningside Elementary visited WILD Florida near Orlando. They observed the characteristics of different animals and compared their observations to their learning from science class. Students enjoyed their time “going wild” with friends and animals.

Third Grade Glows Crazy for Text Structure

Third-grade glows crazy for text structure! Students in Ms. Paries’ class focused on compare and contrast. Students are finding clue words to prove that the text is a compare and contrast text.

Third Grade Explores Arrays at SLWK8

Mrs. Quiles’ students used two-color counters to explore array multiplication. By arranging these counters into rows and columns, they visually grasped how multiplication works, making abstract concepts more concrete and engaging. This hands-on approach enhances their understanding of multiplication while adding an element of fun to their learning experience!  

Third Grade ELA Scores On the Rise

The Florida Department of Education released the Grade 3 ELA Scores, and the percent of Grade 3 students in St. Lucie Public Schools scoring satisfactory rose by two percent this year exceeding the State of Florida’s one percent gain. Seventeen schools had a higher percentage of students with satisfactory scores over last year’s results, and some schools made significant gains.  Floresta Elementary realized an 11 percent gain, and two schools (Allapattah Flats and Oak Hammock) saw an eight percent gain. In Mrs. Hernandez’s class, St. Lucie West K8 third graders began their first math unit, focusing on related facts and the creation of equal groups. These sharks couldn’t wait to dive into their first lesson and embark on a new mathematical adventure. Third Grade Camp Out At Village Green

Third graders in Mrs. Angle’s homeroom class at Village Green Environmental Studies enjoyed a “camp out” during class last week. They were celebrating their accumulation of 40 class cash for demonstrating Manatee Pride over the past few weeks and being exemplary role models to the younger students at Village Green. Students in Mrs. Angle’s class earned class cash for following directions inside and outside of the classroom, during their resource classes, on the playground at recess, and in the cafeteria during lunch. Third grade classes at Allapattah Flats are excited about Positive Behavior Support! The students that have earned 10 Gator Bucks are looking forward to a movie and popcorn party.  Students are working hard to show their best behavior and earn Gator Bucks. Thinking Pink at Fairlawn

The Fairlawn Elementary students and staff held their second annual “Think Pink” Day to raise money and awareness for cancer on October 2nd. Students enjoyed wearing pink clothing items for $1.00 each while supporting an important cause, raising almost $800.  All funds raised by Fairlawn will be presented to local organizations at the Pink Heals Tour event on October 11th in Tradition’s downtown area.
