Better Speech and Hearing Month

During the month of May, Northport celebrates Better Speech and Hearing month.  We are so thankful for our very own speech and language therapists, Jennifer Carey and Nicole Sedan.  Speech and Language therapists are some of the unsung heroes that make a school a successful learning environment. School based Speech and Language Therapy addresses sound articulations, stuttering issues, reading comprehension, vocabulary, syntax problems as well as pragmatic issues such as eye contact, turn-taking and coping strategies and many other integral aspects of speech and hearing. Beta Club Award

Fort Pierce Central High School student Valerie Collins won 4th place for poetry in the National Beta Club competition in Oklahoma! Valerie was joined by thousands of other students at the 2019 National Convention for Beta Clubs around the world.  This convention offers a unique experience for Beta members to gather and collaborate on project ideas as well as share academic and leadership abilities with peers from around the globe.

Best and Brightest

Florida’s Best and Brightest Teacher Scholarship Program, established by the Florida Legislature, offers classroom teachers a monetary scholarship based on SAT or ACT scores and job performance evaluations. To qualify, a classroom teacher must have received a “highly effective” rating on their most recent performance evaluation and have scored at or above the 80th percentile on the SAT or ACT.  Beginning classroom teachers who have not been evaluated must only submit official documentation showing that their score on the SAT or ACT meets the eligibility requirements.  The amended statute indicates that a school district or charter school employee who is eligible … Read More

Recently, Mrs. Jennifer Richardson, SLPS board member, spent a day with the Food Service team at Centennial High School. Her visit provided a firsthand look at the dedication and creativity of our staff, who work tirelessly to provide nutritious meals to our students. Beeping Eggs

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Team partnered with Westside Church and St. Lucie Public Schools to again offer a “beeping” Easter Egg Hunt on Thursday, March 29.  The event took place at Westside Church. The Beeping Easter Egg Hunt was specifically offered for students with a visual impairment and featured special eggs that beep to help locate them.  After the hunt, participants were given special goodie bags of treats to enjoy when they returned home.  The project was made possible through equipment and funds provided by the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators (IABTI). Be the One: Kids at Hope Day at Oak Hammock

To celebrate Kids at Hope Day 2014, Oak Hammock K-8 School implemented an anti-bullying campaign from November through January that empowers all Treasure Hunters and students to find the treasures in all members of the school community. Our personal rendition of the 2014 Kids at Hope theme: “Everyone a Treasure Hunter: Be the ONE to Stand up to Bullying!” This campaign kicked off with a “Hats Off to You” fundraiser, where students and staff paid $1 to wear a hat on campus. Bayshore’s Students Are Rocking Science

The Earth’s rocks are getting a makeover, courtesy of Mother Nature’s extreme makeover team! Mrs. Enoch’s and Pank’s Writing and Science Lab students simulated the rock cycle with Starburst, turning sediment into sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rock – it’s like rock magic! Bayshore’s junior geologists are rocking this science thing!  

Bayshore’s SHOW YOUR WORK Pancake Party

Ms. Piekara’s class at Bayshore Elementary celebrated their hard work with a delightful “SHOW YOUR WORK” Pancake Party! Students who diligently showed their work during their FAST tests were rewarded with a morning filled with delicious pancakes and lively dancing. The classroom buzzed with excitement as students enjoyed their well-deserved treats and fun activities. It was a fantastic way to recognize their efforts and encourage a positive attitude towards learning. Bayshore’s Second Graders Learn About the Democratic Process

Mrs. Glidden’s class learned about the democratic process of voting during a read aloud story. They chose the character they felt would make the best class president according to their actions in the story. Then completed a ballot vote and received an “I voted” sticker. Results were announced at the end of the day.

Bayshore’s PTO Back-to-School Dance

Bayshore Elementary brought the fun during the day with our PTO-sponsored Back-to-School Dance—and what a celebration it was! Our Jaguars showed up with excitement and school spirit, turning the dance floor into a joyful space filled with music, movement, and smiles. Bayshore’s Odyssey of the Mind Team Places Second

Bayshore Elementary’s Odyssey of the Mind Team competed on Saturday, February 25, and received 2nd place! The team created a humorous story about a family that brings home an “Odd-a-Bot.” Instead of being programmed to perform tasks, this Odd-a-Bot robot learned from watching others. The team designed an original robot character that demonstrated human characteristics when performing tasks. In the performance, the Odd-a-Bot character moved and learned human actions from watching characters perform activities such as household chores, singing, and dancing.
