One hundred students from Port St. Lucie High School attended the District Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) College Fair held at the district office on January 23rd, 2025. The college fair facilitated on-the-spot acceptances and scholarship offers to several students, highlighting the valuable connections made between students and higher education institutions. Dr. Belgraves shared that she was incredibly proud of our Jaguars and their impressive achievements at the college fair. College-Bound Twins Head Across the Country!

Twin Cobra Seniors, Grace and Emily Welby are academically inclined, incredibly focused, and college-bound!  Emily is heading to the University of Florida and Grace will be attending the University of Michigan. College and Career Development Workshop Series: What Parents Need to Know

St. Lucie Public Schools’ Office of Teaching and Learning has launched a College and Career Development Workshop Series: What Parents Need to Know.  These workshops are geared for parents of 9th-12th grade students. Collaborative Creations Through CTE at St. Lucie West K8

Through a collaborative CTE training with local high schools, measuring was a skill identified to focus on to prepare middle school students for high school CTE courses. Ms. Boham’s class learned about rulers, markings, fractions, and how to use tools safely to cut and sand wood. Students measured and used a drill press to make holes needed to complete a Mother’s Day napkin holder. Students were eager to put their skills to the test to complete their creations!

Collaborative Competition at St. Lucie West K8

St. Lucie West K8 students in Mrs. Howard’s 6th-grade ELA classes had the opportunity to get to know their classmates by working collaboratively in groups. They competed to see which group could put together a 100-piece puzzle the fastest! They discussed which strategies they used, identifying what worked best and what didn’t! After the activity concluded, they completed a follow-up quick write activity and answered the question, “Do you think competition should be part of everyone’s childhood?” This activity engaged students and asked them to think critically. Collaborating & Creating at Oak Hammock K-8

As a first-day back-to-school team building lesson, students in Ms. Savanello-McQuay InD homeroom class at Oak Hammock K-8 were engaged in learning the importance of working together #OspreysSoarTogether. The class read the story, The Most Magnificent Thing, by Ashley Spires and discussed the importance of not giving up and having enthusiasm about their projects. Students collaborated in groups to create their “Magnificent” things; they were successful in constructing a bowling alley, a classmate’s favorite dessert—pie, and a hand glider.

Cobras Visit The River

Fort Pierce Central High School Dual Enrollment students participated in a fieldtrip championed by Instructor Robert Ott to Indian River State College. Once on the college campus, Katie Williams and her staff provided valuable information including library instruction and academic services for students. Move over Wheel of Fortune and Price is Right, Central’s PBIS Prize Wheel is spinning in action! Cobras are spinning the prize wheel at lunches every Monday and Wednesday for a myriad of prizes. Rewarding positive behaviors reinforces Cobra Nation’s expectations for a successful year. Teachers nominate students demonstrating expectations with a ticket to win. Students spin the prize wheel with a winner at every turn. Students get to enjoy a refreshment, prize, or Cobra perk! Keep up the positive choices Cobras!  

Cobras Pledge Not to Text and Drive

Fort Pierce Central High School conducted a week of training to increase awareness about the dangers of texting and driving. All drivers entering the FPC campus last week were asked to sign a pledge to NOT TEXT AND DRIVE and were given a thumb-ring inscribed with TXTL8R to remind them through the day. This campaign will culminate with Teen Awareness Week as part of FPC Homecoming 2015.

Cobras Organize And Make Impact

Our amazing Cobras organized events over the last month to discuss and bring attention to the issue of school shootings. These events included performances by our Louder Than a Bomb Team, Choir, Drama, and culminated with a student panel discussion. On Friday, May 4th, the audience included our Superintendent of Schools, police officers, local judge, commissioners, representatives, and many other community leaders — all listening to our students! We are so proud of our Cobras!

Cobra staff members took time from their busy schedules to speak with students in Leadership Techniques classes. Cobras Feast with Lake Forest Park Residents

The Thanksgiving Feast is an annual event sponsored by Fort Pierce Central High School JROTC battalion and the Fort Pierce Central Culinary Program students that allows the students to meet and have a meal with the residents of the Lake Forest Park senior living home. This year, the Cobra Battalion cadets also partnered with the Fort Pierce Central High School Student Government Association and Fort Pierce Central High School Chorus students to provide the seniors with an even greater event than last year. Cobras Compete at National Ocean Sciences Bowl

ST. LUCIE COUNTY – Ft. Pierce Central High School’s (FPCHS) Cobra Pride came through in a respectable showing at the 19th Annual National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) Competition in Morehead City, North Carolina. Team members Andrew Caputo, Cody Nichols, Victor Alterizio, Bryce Starr, and Riley Kicker represented the school and finished 12th in the national competition. Cobras Come Together for Ms. Dowdy

Mackenzie Dowdy is a cobra through and through! In January of this year, she was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma or soft tissue cancer. At 46, her bravery propelled her into treatment, future surgeries, and ongoing chemotherapy. In support of Ms. Dowdy, Cobra Nation came together at Duffy’s Sports Grill to raise funds toward her medical expenses. Thanks to Ms. Dowdy’s son (pictured above) who works at Duffy’s for championing this event honoring and supporting his mother. Mr. Gardner and Mr. Siminski join Ms. Dowdy. Well-wishes from colleagues, students, and Ms. Dowdy’s family!

Cobras’ Art & Fire Make Learning Come Alive

Saturday, April 26, Ceramics III Honors and AICE Art & Design students were invited to participate in Raku Firing at the Indian River Clay Studio (IRCS) in Vero Beach. At 9am, the heat was turned on, and the outdoor Raku kiln was warming up. Students received a tour of the kiln room, clay and glazes preparation area, studio space, and workshop. Students premade their artwork at FPC’s ceramics studio, did a bisque fire, and coated their artwork with specialized Raku glazes.
