Colt Nation Leader in Me & Minecraft Stop & STEM

Colt Nation’s 4th graders enjoyed a Leader in Me/Minecraft Stop & STEM day in which they collaboratively selected and reflected upon their favorite Leader in Me habit, expressed their communal voice through FlipGrid, and designed a visual representation of their habit in Minecraft. It took teamwork to execute this challenge using multiple modalities. Everyone’s genius was surely at work! Great job, Colts!

Colorful Fun at Village Green

Celebrating the inventor of the Crayola crayon! Ms. Sievers, VGESS Media Specialist, read this book to students. The students were inspired by the story of Edwin Binney, the inventor of the Crayola crayon, and his love for art and color. They learned about the history of how crayons were created and how they have become a staple in art and creativity. Fort Pierce Central High School students in the Allied Health program were provided an opportunity to participate in a College Readiness presentation.  This presentation was special as it was hosted by Ms. Shannon Robinson, a Fort Pierce Central High School alumni and current University of Florida Dental student.  Students from Ms. Charles and Mrs. Young’s classes were provided tips for success in high school and college.  The presentation included a wealth of information from high school engagement and leadership opportunities to college scholarships. Over 600 parents and students attended Ft. Pierce Central’s College Night for Juniors and Seniors.  Hosted by Central’s Guidance Dept. and Administration, families learned important information regarding the college application process, college admission data, and financial/scholarship opportunities.  Websites that can assist in selecting and applying for colleges and scholarships were demonstrated.  Students were also given a time line of what needs to be completed each month to stay on track and meet deadlines.  Guidance Counselors and teachers will continue to work with Seniors on college and career choices throughout the school year.  Many parents expressed their gratitude for the information, … Read More

The Port St. Lucie Civic Center hosted the annual College Fair to inform all students and parents about colleges and universities to prepare them for the future. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar JROTC volunteered to help the colleges, universities, and community supporters set up and prepare for the the event.

One hundred students from Port St. Lucie High School attended the District Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) College Fair held at the district office on January 23rd, 2025. The college fair facilitated on-the-spot acceptances and scholarship offers to several students, highlighting the valuable connections made between students and higher education institutions. Dr. Belgraves shared that she was incredibly proud of our Jaguars and their impressive achievements at the college fair. Twin Cobra Seniors, Grace and Emily Welby are academically inclined, incredibly focused, and college-bound!  Emily is heading to the University of Florida and Grace will be attending the University of Michigan. St. Lucie Public Schools’ Office of Teaching and Learning has launched a College and Career Development Workshop Series: What Parents Need to Know.  These workshops are geared for parents of 9th-12th grade students. Collaborative Creations Through CTE at St. Lucie West K8

Through a collaborative CTE training with local high schools, measuring was a skill identified to focus on to prepare middle school students for high school CTE courses. Ms. Boham’s class learned about rulers, markings, fractions, and how to use tools safely to cut and sand wood. Students measured and used a drill press to make holes needed to complete a Mother’s Day napkin holder. Students were eager to put their skills to the test to complete their creations!

Collaborative Competition at St. Lucie West K8

St. Lucie West K8 students in Mrs. Howard’s 6th-grade ELA classes had the opportunity to get to know their classmates by working collaboratively in groups. They competed to see which group could put together a 100-piece puzzle the fastest! They discussed which strategies they used, identifying what worked best and what didn’t! After the activity concluded, they completed a follow-up quick write activity and answered the question, “Do you think competition should be part of everyone’s childhood?” This activity engaged students and asked them to think critically. Collaborating & Creating at Oak Hammock K-8

As a first-day back-to-school team building lesson, students in Ms. Savanello-McQuay InD homeroom class at Oak Hammock K-8 were engaged in learning the importance of working together #OspreysSoarTogether. The class read the story, The Most Magnificent Thing, by Ashley Spires and discussed the importance of not giving up and having enthusiasm about their projects. Students collaborated in groups to create their “Magnificent” things; they were successful in constructing a bowling alley, a classmate’s favorite dessert—pie, and a hand glider.
