Dan McCarty Middle School Chorus Earns Superior Rating

The Dan McCarty Middle School Treble Choir recently participated in the District 13 Music Performance Assessment Festival in Vero, FL., earning straight “Superior” ratings in both performance and sight reading. They received an “A” rating from all four judges in every category. This is the highest rating a choir can receive. The judges commented that the students were “very, very well prepared.” In addition, the young singers were praised for their tone quality, technical preparation and musical effect. The chorus is directed by Dr. Rolanda A. Jones.

We are incredibly proud of our four phenomenal students — Joel Butler, Tyler Lubien, Jennifer Nguyen & Jose Rangel — who represented Dan McCarty Middle School at the Project Citizen Fair! The Dan McCarty Sixth-Grade Team proudly celebrates positive behavior and strong academic performance through our PBIS reward system known as Eagle Bucks. Students earn Eagle Bucks by demonstrating responsibility, respect, effort, and a commitment to learning each day. Every few weeks, students are invited to participate in a PBIS supply store, where they can redeem their Eagle Bucks for meaningful and motivating rewards. Dan McCarty families celebrate Hispanic heritage

During October, students and staff at Dan McCarty School celebrated Hispanic Heritage month with music, food, cultural displays and more. On October 30, Dan McCarty School parents and students participated in a special Hispanic Heritage celebration. Visitors were entertained with Latin music, dance, and customs, as well as a special performance by the St. Lucie Ballet Company and their production of the “Nutcracker” with a Hispanic flair. Dan McCarty Eagles Celebrate TOY, DME, OFYT, and SRE

Principal Felicia Nixon and Assistant Principal Heather Stanford-Clark announced the Teacher of the Year, Distinguished Minority Educator, Outstanding First Year Teacher, and School Related Employee nominees during the Eagle News Morning Show. The entire school campus celebrated the phenomenal instructional/behavioral contributions of Ms. Dumont (TOY), Ms. Dennis (DME), Ms. Thiery (OFYT-not pictured), and Ms. Tucker (SRE). Project Citizen is designed to help students learn how public policy is initiated and implemented at the various government levels. A significant portion of the Civics curriculum is allotted to this project. Students are responsible for identifying a community problem, examine alternative policies, develop a policy, and develop an action plan as a solution. The students in John Hett’s Civics class felt the problem of senior citizen (age 65 and over) depression is largely overlooked. Sixteen students representing Dan McCarty Middle School chorus recently joined their voices with other middle school singers to participate in Music in Our Schools Concert. The event was held at the Fenn Center. Each year, elementary middle and high school band and chorus students come together to rehearse, perform, and promote music advocacy in St. Lucie County. Dan McCarty AVID Program in Action

This year Dan McCarty has become an AVID(Advancement Via Individual Determination) school. This designation allows for our sixth graders to learn about college and career readiness! Our first activity to expose students to different careers, started today with Retired Officer and current IRSC Professor, Chris Fulcher! Mr.Fulcher alongside Officer Stephens teamed up to discuss career opportunities in law enforcement and crime scene investigation! Dan McCarty anticipates 60th anniversary celebration

During the weekend of November 9th, 2013, the staff and families of Dan McCarty School will celebrate its 60th anniversary. There are many enjoyable activities planned that will start at 2PM Saturday, November 9, in the school’s gym. Remember to wear green! The school is located at Mississippi Avenue and 13th Street north of Virginia Avenue in Fort Pierce.

Dan McCarty Annual Science Fair Awards

Dan McCarty is celebrating the 8 students that are representing the school at the Science Fair. The students received wings and fries from JoJo’s for lunch and received awards for their projects. Each student will be receiving a paid trip to Busch Gardens.
