Fairlawn Elementary students honored for winning stock market challenge

A team of four students in Shirley Helton’s fifth grade class at Fairlawn Elementary School were honored at the March 13, 2012 St. Lucie County School Board meeting for their first place win of the elementary division of the Florida Stock Market Exchange Challenge. Students were provided an account to buy and sell stocks just like the real stock market, using a variety of tools and materials for research. Fairlawn Elementary students honor veterans

Students in Shirley Helton’s fifth grade class at Fairlawn Elementary School recently held a special program honoring veterans in commemoration of their service to our country. Students wrote and performed original songs and a special play to show their appreciation. In addition, all students presented a letter to the veterans. Fairlawn Elementary students donate to troops stationed abroad

Fairlawn Elementary School’s PTO donated 60 shirts to students in Shirley Helton’s fifth grade class to send to troops stationed in Afghanistan. The students have been sending “goodie boxes” to the troops all year long as part of their “Treats for Troops” project. Fairlawn Elementary students design magnet powered boats

As a part of their study of how magnets can be used to move objects without touching them, Jennifer Ingersoll’s second grade students at Fairlawn Elementary School designed, constructed, and raced magnetically powered boats.   After studying the effects of magnets on different materials, the students were asked to draw and label a boat design that could be pulled with a magnetic wand.  Then, the students were provided building materials and were able to test their designs by participating in boat races with their fellow students.

Fairlawn Elementary students create character models

After reading a fictional text of their choice, students at Fairlawn Elementary created a 3-D character model and an accompanying interview in class. Students composed questions for the main character, and then answered the questions from the character’s perspective. Next, they created a 3-D model of the main character out of either a pumpkin or a two-liter bottle of soda. The models and interviews were put on display for all to enjoy at the school-wide Harvest Festival. Pictured are Maddie Moynagh, left, and Ashlee Irizarry creating their pumpkin model.

Student Appreciation Day at Fairlawn Elementary was a memorable celebration dedicated to recognizing the incredible students who make our school community so special. The day’s highlight featured a red carpet runway experience, where our All-Star students confidently walked while being cheered on by staff and supporters. Fairlawn Elementary Spells Fun During Literacy Week

As part of Literacy Week, Fairlawn Elementary brought learning to life with an exciting and interactive “Human Scrabble Day.” Students proudly wore a letter of their choice and worked together with classmates to form words, turning teamwork and creativity into a powerful literacy experience. Classrooms and hallways were filled with laughter, movement, and meaningful conversations as students arranged themselves to spell simple sight words, longer vocabulary terms, and everything in between. Fairlawn Elementary Shows Their Appreciation for the Transportation Department

Students at Fairlawn Elementary showed their appreciation for the Transportation Department following the PBIS Training and Breakfast. Fairlawn’s Bus Drivers, Bus Monitors and Larry Petruff from the Transportation Department were amongst our invited guest. Students from Mrs. Cohen and Mrs. Neshkoff’s first grade classes honored them with a song tribute and students Olivia Titherington, Gracelyn Rouleau, Jacob Cason, and Isabel Paschal did the poster presentation. “Thanks for all that you do in taking us safely to and from school,” students noted. Fairlawn truly looked outstanding at this year’s MLK Parade, and it was a moment to be proud of our amazing school community. LUCIE COUNTY — Representatives from Imagine Nation recently visited Fairlawn Elementary School to bestow congratulations and present Principal Pam Holmes and staff with a special Beacon Award.   Each year, Imagine Nation recognizes top schools across the country that demonstrate stellar usage of Imagine Learning, one of the parent company’s digital language, literacy, and math programs. Fairlawn Elementary School Collects Over 2,300 Pounds of Food

Fairlawn Elementary proudly celebrated Literacy Week with a fun and engaging “Read My Shirt” Day that put reading front and center across campus. Fairlawn Elementary participates in the Pink Heals tour

Fairlawn Elementary School raised over $1,200 during a recent Pink Heals event to benefit local organizations that support cancer education, prevention, detection, treatment and research. Recently, a day was designated for students to wear “pink items” to school such as a pink shirt, pink pants/skirts, pink socks etc. The adults also participated and it was a fun way to help an important cause.
