Fairlawn Elementary proudly kicked off Literacy Week with our beloved “One School, One Book” initiative, an event that brings our entire school community together through reading. During this program, every student at Fairlawn receives a copy of the same book so families can enjoy the story together at home. This year’s featured selection is Nim’s Island, an exciting and engaging novel that has captured the attention of students across all grade levels.
Each evening, a special guest teacher reads a chapter aloud on YouTube, making the experience interactive and fun for students. In the classroom, students participate in daily discussions and answer questions about the previous night’s chapter, strengthening comprehension and critical thinking skills. This shared reading experience fosters a love of literacy and creates meaningful connections throughout our school community.
