Flip Flop Facts

Mrs. Glidden’s first grade class tests the order of their addends in their addition sentences to find out if it changes the sum. The students quickly found out that it did not and engaged in a game of “find your flip flop fact friend” to match their addition sentence with someone else who had their same addends ordered differently.

Flag Burning Retirement Ceremony

On February 14, 2018, the JROTC Jaguar Battalion had our annual Service Learning event. At this event our cadets retired unserviceable flags from public buildings and military bases.  We had U.S. veterans attend, along with our Jaguar band and Mr. Frazer’s class. The master of ceremony was C/ Major Syanna Graham.

FKS Water Conservation Poster Contest Winner

Christopher Gomez at Frances K. Sweet was surprised to find out he won the 2017 Drop Savers Water Conservation Poster Contest for fifth grade. The City of Port St. Lucie Utility Systems, in conjunction with Florida Section American Water Works Association (FSAWWA), held the contest for all St. Lucie County students in order for them to better understand the importance of water conservation. FK Sweet’s MOA Program Dives Into Lagoon Learning with FAU

FK Sweet’s MOA Discovery Program kicked off their first session with FAU Harbor Branch. The session introduced students to lagoon habitats and wildlife by utilizing scientific tools, examining specimens, and demonstrating how the concepts introduced in the classroom relate to marine science research. Students investigated seagrass beds, mangroves, oyster reefs, and the diverse array of animals that depend on them. We hope that through this program, students gain skills in observation, classification, and scientific thinking, as well as a deeper appreciation for one of Florida’s most unique ecosystems, the Indian River Lagoon. FK Sweet Second Graders Learn About the Citrus Industry

The students in Mrs. Traci Lott’s second grade class had a wonderful time on their field trip to Al’s Family Farms. Students had the opportunity to learn about the citrus industry with a guided tour of the packing house. Students were able to learn about Florida citrus from the time it was planted until the time it was picked and cleaned and then finally packed for delivery or sold to consumers. All the students agree that the best part was the samples of oranges, orange juice, and the delicious orange ice cream.

FK Sweet Hosts Superintendent Gent at SAC Meeting

Frances K. Sweet Magnet School was pleased to host Mr. E. Wayne Gent at our School Advisory Council Meeting on February 12, 2019.  Parents, teachers, students, staff, and community members received important information regarding the proposed referendum directly from our Superintendent.  They had the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback. After the meeting, Mr. Gent visited the music suite and performed a solo piano exhibition that was impressive to students and educators alike!  Thank you Mr. Gent for your belief in our students, teachers, and community.

Five Star School Award 2013-14

Five Star School Awards for 2013-14 were presented to St. Lucie Public Schools at the Board meeting on October 28, 2014. In order for a school to qualify for this prestigious award they must have a grade of “C” or above for the school year; achieve 100% of the criteria in the categories of Business Partners, Family Involvement, Volunteers, Student Community Service and School advisory Councils; and have a portfolio that documents the achievements of each criteria. The awards were given to: Allapattah Flats K-8, Bayshore Elementary, Fairlawn Elementary, Forest Grove Middle, Frances K. The Five Star School Award was created by the Commissioner’s Community Involvement Council and is presented annually to those schools that have shown evidence of exemplary community involvement. In order to earn Five Star School recognition, a school must show documentation that it has achieved 100 percent of the established criteria in the following categories. Five St. Lucie Public Schools were recognized at the April 23, 2013, St. Lucie County School Board meeting as PBS model schools. Bayshore Elementary, C.A. Five Mariposa Elementary students to participate in all county chorus

Students who will represent Mariposa Elementary School in the All County Chorus in April are Jessica Bently, SadiahKouns, Mia Rose Kirchner, Alex Perry, and Sara Cardoso. This year’s theme is Songs of Florida. The students will be practicing after school with music teacher Thomas Conner to prepare for their video taping for the concert April 26 at the Fenn Center in Fort Peirce. Five Manatee Academy students participated in the All County Elementary Chorus

Five F.K. Sweet Students Win the Law Poster Contest

Congratulations to Shamir Sterlin, Dayden Holtman, Lana Lovanh, Brian Wu, and Skylar Monroe who won this year’s Law Poster Contest! The theme this year (for Elementary grades) was “Voting at the Polls”.   Mrs. Cary Schott was so proud of her art students. Each student worked hard to create a winning illustration. For grades 3-5, Brian Wu took 1st place and received $150.00. Dayden Holtman took 2nd place and received $100.00. Lana Lovanh took third place and received $75.00. Five Centennial High students complete finance course with perfect scores

Students in three Allied Health Assisting classes at St. Lucie West Centennial High School recently completed a Financial Literacy Program in Mary Higgins’ and Elizabeth Durkee’s classes. The program consisted of 12 online modules and was completed as a class assignment. The program is offered through the nonprofit Debt Management Credit Counseling by Jason Athas, Manager of Educational Programs at Debt Management Credit Corps. He has been teaching these classes at Centennial for about seven years. FIT Field Trip

On Thursday, October 26, the Jaguar cadets took a trip to Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) to expand their knowledge of senior ROTC and the college admission process. With a few guest speakers from the admissions office, ROTC and a US Army Officer; the Jaguar cadets have learned valuable information about how their future should go.

First Vote Week

Supervisor of Elections Gertrude Walker requested the Board’s endorsement of the “First Vote Week” Proclamation for March 11-15, 2019, that upholds a non-partisan, classroom-based voter education, registration and citizenship program conducted in Social Studies and American Government classes for high school students. The goal of the Supervisor of Elections is to give every student the opportunity to register to vote at age 18 or pre-register at age 16 and 17.  The Supervisor of Elections and her staff will be on high school campuses to assist students and teachers with voter registration in support of the First Vote program.

First United Methodist Church Supports Northport Teachers!

Northport community is thankful and grateful for the wonderful partnership with First United Methodist Church of Port St. Lucie. Not only do many members of the congregation serve in the school as volunteers and mentors and Rev. Dr. Rad Orlandi has been tapped as NP Volunteer of the Year, but the church and the Pastor, Brian Carr, offered fellowship and good will to the staff with platters of food for the Northport teachers’ Professional Development day.
