Five Centennial High students complete finance course with perfect scores

Students in three Allied Health Assisting classes at St. Lucie West Centennial High School recently completed a Financial Literacy Program in Mary Higgins’ and Elizabeth Durkee’s classes. The program consisted of 12 online modules and was completed as a class assignment. The program is offered through the nonprofit Debt Management Credit Counseling by Jason Athas, Manager of Educational Programs at Debt Management Credit Corps. He has been teaching these classes at Centennial for about seven years. Five of the students in the program received a perfect score, who are pictured, from left, Christa Oralus, Matt Leo, Jason Athas from DMCC, Levi Wesley, Taylor Ferruggia, and Holly Aldrich. All received a certificate for completing but also received a cash prize. Students were quoted as saying “I didn’t know credit was that important;”  “It’s definitely something I need to pay attention to;” “The financial literacy program was a very good experience;” “All high school students should participate in this program. By learning about finances ahead of time, a person would be less likely to end up in a bad financial situation.”
