Unified Track and Field Meet

With the support of Special Olympics Coordinators from local high schools, St. Lucie Public Schools hosted its first Unified Track and Field Meet on Wednesday, March 8th at Lawnwood Stadium in Fort Pierce. The Meet started out as a practice run, but it soon turned into a full-fledged event that engaged all participants in a spirited day.  The excitement of the track and field events was infectious and everyone left with smiles on their faces.

Students participated in a Unified Track Meet at Lawnwood Stadium in Fort Pierce on Thursday to compete in track and field events including the 4×100 meter relay, 4×400 meter relay, 100 meter dash, and softball toss. Unified Bowling Team Represents TCHS at District Tournament

On Saturday, September 27, Treasure Coast High School’s Unified Bowling Team competed in the District Tournament in Orlando. The team included four athletes and three unified partners, all coming together for a day of bowling, teamwork, and school pride. Coaches Cisneros and Kemp supported the group throughout the event, which was filled with friendly competition, encouragement, and plenty of high fives. The team demonstrated what inclusion looks like in action, students of all abilities working side by side, supporting one another, and having fun. Unforgettable Performances and a Holiday Reunion at Southport Middle School

Southport Middle School celebrated a week of music and memorable moments with two outstanding concerts. The advanced band showcased their talent at Port St. Lucie High School, while the beginner band delivered an impressive performance right here at SPMS. During the beginner band concert, the audience witnessed an unforgettable surprise.  A student was reunited with her mother, who had been deployed in South Korea for over a year. UF USDA Visits Frances K. Sweet

UCF Visits FPC

Last week, our senior students had the privilege of hosting a visit from the University of Central Florida (UCF) in our auditorium. This informative session provided students with crucial insights into UCF’s admission requirements, vibrant campus life, and diverse degree programs. U.S. Census Bureau Program Supports Learning at Home for PreK-12 Students

The U.S. Census Bureau’s Statistics in Schools (SIS) program has released four parent/caregiver toolkits that includes valuable resources for parents and guardians to use at home with students from Pre-K through high school. Two Windmill Point students earn awards in DAR contest

Students in Caryol-Lynn Hallahan’s second grade class at Windmill Point Elementary participated in the National Society DAR Junior American Citizens contest. This year’s theme was “Invest in America’s Future.” The students were able to create a poster or write a short story depicting the theme. The local Cora Stockney Harper Chapter submitted two entries for judging by the state organization, and Efrain Pellot’s entry received a second place award for his short story from the Florida State Society and Anthony Phillip’s entry received a third place award for his poster category from the state. Two St. Lucie teachers honored at state conference

Richard Gray of Lincoln Park Academy and Kathleen Ems of St. Lucie West K-8 School were recognized as St. Lucie Public Schools’ Social Studies teachers of the year for 2013 at an awards dinner during the Florida Council for the Social Studies 56th annual conference October 26 and 27 in Daytona Beach. Two St. Lucie students chosen to participate in International Science Fair

Two St. Lucie Public Schools students were chosen by the regional judges as international finalists at the recent 58th annual State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida, and 10 were recognized as state finalists. Lincoln Park Academy students Robert Bacchus and Neha Reddy are now eligible to participate in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair next month in Phoenix, Arizona. Robert is studying cancer cells in the brain and Neha is studying citrus greening. The St. Lucie County Education Foundation has established a fund to help support the students and a teacher/chaperone to attend. Two St. Lucie science teachers spend summer conducting research

Manatee Academy pre-veterinary science teacher Lisa Friend and Port St. Lucie High School biology teacher Michael Mimnaugh spent their summer conducting STEM related research at formal research institutions. Ms. Friend spent six weeks at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, actively experimenting with superconducting magnets and spectral equipment to test crystals for magnetic properties. She co-authored a published scientific article as a result of the experience. “Bringing back insights into how scientific inquiry is conducted to the classroom will result in my students having more realistic and beneficial learning experiences,” she remarked. Two St. Lucie County Teachers Selected to Attend Geology Camp

5th grade teacher at Mosaic Digital Academy, Marsha Mimnaugh, and Earth Space Science & AP Environmental instructor at Port St. Lucie High, Michael Mimnaugh, have been selected from a pool of nationwide applicants to attend “G-Camp” this summer through Texas A&M’s Geology and Geophysics department. G-Camp is a 14-day field camp for 5th – 12th grade science teachers that provides first-hand experience with the principles of Geology in the field. Two Lincoln Park students take top honors in state science competition

Lincoln Park Academy senior Robert Bacchus, Jr., and eighth grade student Haniyah Shareef took the top prizes in their respective age groups at the recent Florida Junior Academy of Sciences (FJAS) speaker competition. Only 10 students were chosen in the state per research category for the competitive contest. Robert took first place in High School Medical Sciences, and received the FJAS Senior Scholarship; Haniyah took first place in Middle School Environmental Sciences. Robert was also named a semifinalist in the Intel® Science Talent Search (Intel STS) in 2014, the nation’s most prestigious pre-college science competition. –

Two Fairlawn Elementary students to compete at state level for essay contest

Students in Shirley Helton’s fifth grade class at Fairlawn Elementary took top honors in the VFW (Veteran’s of Foreign Wars) essay contest promoting citizenship and patriotism. Jillian Markle, left, placed first in the district and Sariah Strunk came in second. They won for the district and will go on to the state competition. Congratulations!
