Grip and rip again on November 3 at Gator Trace Golf and Country Club in Fort Pierce for the St. Lucie County School District Facilities & Maintenance 2012 Intern Program golf outing. The day of fun includes 18 holes of challenging golf, a wonderful lunch, awesome door prizes, a terrific hole-in-one prize and much more at the awards banquet. Unusual guests highlight Family Reading Night at Mariposa Elementary

Mariposa Elementary School recently held another Read to Succeed Night. Families came and participated in the activities. Special guest for the night was Bruce Shwedick of the Reptile Discovery Program. He brought with him a 15 pound yellow shelled tortoise from Brazil, a 25-pound Alligator snapping turtle, a nine-foot long reticulated python, and Banana Girl (a 16-foot albino python!), among others. Everyone learned from the information Mr. Shwedick shared about these awesome reptiles! Pictured is Alanna Rivera bravely touching Banana Girl!

University of Florida Visits Lincoln Park Academy

Lincoln Park Academy Students listened intently to a presentation by Mr. Carlens Clervoyant, University of Florida Admission Counselor. Students gained vital information on admission, scholarships, housing, on-campus clubs, and life in Gainesville Florida. All students who attended are eager even more than before, to go home and complete their common application by November 1. Go Future Gators!

University of Florida 4-H Program Enriches St. Lucie West K8’s ELA Unit

Third graders enjoyed a guest speaker from the UF/4-H program that enriched our Animal Adaptations unit. They discovered how great horned owls use their feathers for camouflage, vertebrate animals, and how turtle shells offer protection. The presentation also covered how predators have developed specific traits for survival. This engaging session helped students understand the various ways animals adapt to thrive in their environments!

United Way’s Largest Campaign Overall (Student and Employee Combined)

United Way of St. Lucie County’s Vice President of Development & Marketing, Monte Kosoff, announced at the April 8th School Board Meeting the winners of the largest campaign overall which included student and employee contributions. The winners are Morningside Elementary with a total of $2,785, Treasure Coast High School with a total of $2,420, West Gate K-8 with a total of $1,272, and Southern Oaks Middle School with a total of $1,172. United Way Back to School Event for Teachers

United Way of St. Lucie County will be hosting a Back to School event for all St. Lucie County teachers August 5th – 8th and Saturday, August 10th. Last year, United Way transformed their School Supplies for Students program into Tools for Schools St. Lucie, a free teacher resource center where teachers can directly shop for needed supplies for their classrooms. Unified Track Meet Brings Student Athletes Together

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL – Runners will take their mark on Thursday, March 8, 2018, for this year’s Unified Track Meet scheduled for 3:00 PM.
