Parkway was the recipient of $600 to support the purchase of a handicap-accessible swing for our playground. This donation was generously provided by members of the Port St. Lucie Moose Lodge.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY – Participation and recognition at this year’s State Science and Engineering STEM Fair and Competition in Lakeland, Florida, proved to be laden with accolades for St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) students. Northport Supports Autism Speaks Walk in Tradition

Northport participated in a wonderful community event recently to support Autism Awareness. Autism Speaks Walk was held in Tradition on a beautiful Saturday morning. Northport’s team called the Puzzlers had a wonderful turnout and several of our families took part in the event. Northport has particpated for two years and the teachers and families have stated that this will definitely become an annual event with an even bigger turnout and even more support. Imagine what a school can do when collaboration becomes part of how things get done.  On March 31, 2016, the Treasure Coast High School Visual and Performing Arts Department collaborated with Port St Lucie Botanical Gardens to host their annual art show.  The TCHS Culinary Arts Academy provided tasty delicacies while patrons enjoyed Fine Art, Graphic Art, Photography, Theatrical Performances, and a Dance Performances.  To say the least, it was sensory overload!

Northport Advanced Band Represents With a Superior Rating!

Northport K-8 School Advanced Band, under the direction of Brian Hoce, received an overall Superior rating at the Music Performance Assessments held recently at Treasure Coast High School. Nearly all middle school bands were represented at the assessments from Saint Lucie, Indian River, Okeechobee and Martin Counties. Parents and students were thrilled to learn of their Superior grade and realized that all their arduous work paid off with the posting of the grades. WPBF’s Weather Program Visits Mariposa Elementary

Cris Martinez’s weather program from WPBF News Channel 25 visted Mariposa Elementary’s fifth graders. The students kicked off the weather program with a rap they wrote and choreographed about how hurricanes form. Next, Mr. Martinez discussed and interactively presented how tornadoes form and how they affect us in Florida. Rebecca Sampson was interviewed by Cris Martinez; she explained how much she enjoyed his interactive presentations. It was a great learning experience for our fifth graders!

Mosaic Digital Academy Student Earns Congressional Award

Mosaic Digital Academy’s Christine Bourgoin (Grade 10) earned the bronze award at the 2016 Congressional Award ceremony held on April 3, 2016 at Palm Beach State College. Christine completed 100 volunteer hours: 50 Personal Development, 50 Personal Fitness, and a 2-day, 1 night expedition. Walk for Autism Speaks Brings Community Awareness

LUCIE COUNTY – Walk for Autism Speaks is a community event organized by volunteers at West Gate K-8 school in collaboration with Palm Point Educational Research School at Tradition.  On Saturday, April 2, an estimated 2,000 staff from St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS), community organizations, and families poured into Tradition Square to begin the Walk.   Each year this event continues to grow and help bring about a greater awareness of autism. Centennial Valedictorian Accepted Into Four Ivy League Universities

Satchel Joseph, the 2016 SLWCHS valedictorian, has been accepted into four Ivy League Universities: Cornell, Dartmouth, Princeton, and The University of Pennsylvania. She was also accepted by Georgia Tech and Duke. All of the institutions offered her substantial scholarships ranging to more than $70,000 per year. Satchel is leaning toward attending Princeton, which accepted a mere 6% of this year’s applicants. Here, Ms. Joseph is pictured with Centennial’s  Principal Andrea Popwell.

Speakers Bureau – Fort Pierce Westwood

The Speakers Bureau Special Guest Speakers at Ft. Pierce Westwood High School this month were Mr. Nick Mimms, Ft. Pierce City Manager, and Mr. Joseph Smith, St. Lucie Count Clerk of Courts. Mr. Mimms and Mr. Smith encouraged the students by letting them know that despite road blocks and opposition, continue to work hard and dream big. Dr. Donna Mills also spoke to the students about the importance of paying it forward.

Ms. Valerie Arendas a teacher at Port St. Lucie High in Fort Pierce was among 23 teachers selected to be a Behring Teacher Ambassador for National History Day® during the 2016-2017 school year. To be selected recipients must show outstanding creativity, commitment and inspiration in developing students’ interest in history education. Candidates must be excellent classroom teachers who are past winners of the Behring Teacher Award in their state or affiliate program. ST. LUCIE COUNTY – Celebrate Music in Our Schools with area bands and choral ensembles as they fill the Fenn Center with the sound of music on April 7 at 7:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend this free concert sponsored by St. Lucie Public Schools.
