St. Lucie Public Schools celebrates individuals each month for exceptional customer service with the STAR award. This month’s recipients were from Lakewood Park Elementary and the Finance Department. Mr. Blount, a music instructor at Lakewood Park Elementary School, provides support to the marching band program at Fort Pierce Central High School. After coaching his aspiring elementary musicians, he devotes hours supporting the older musicians in a voluntary capacity. Bayshore Elementary School students and staff members participated in a toy drive for Toys for Tots sponsored by the United States Marine Corps. Second Grade Teacher Nancy Fallon coordinated the event and was excited to have Bayshore Elementary as a designated drop-off location. All donated toys will go to local families in need. Save the Chimps, the world’s largest chimpanzee sanctuary, asked for assistance during the holiday season creating safe decorations to be used for their Chimpmas Celebration. Bayshore students donated recycled boxes and created paper chains that will be part of the chimpanzees celebration. Congratulations to the Ft. Pierce Westwood HS Teams of Cadets who competed in the Junior Leadership and Academic Bowls. The Academic team consisted of Cadets Andrews, Loschin, Soto, Flores, and the alternative cadet Rigsby. The Leadership team consisted of Cadets Payen, Egan, Lovell, Ocampo, Hartley, and Reese. Out of the 1,308 teams that participated across America to include Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Hawaii, Guam, and DOD Schools across the world; they’ve earned the bragging rights to say both teams will be moving on to Level 2. The next level of the competition will be held February 1-15.

Quigley’s watercolor entitled “An Eye On the Future” will travel with Representative Lee to Tallahassee where it will be displayed and become part of the Art in the Capitol exhibit. Art in the Capitol is the result of a bill designed to bring attention to the arts in education. Cadets from Fort Pierce Westwood High School recently traveled to Cape Canaveral to learn about an ongoing scientific project. Cadets spent the morning with Dr. Deborah Gordon and Kurt Leucht understanding their studies of the foraging and communications algorithms of ants and how these algorithms have been converted into software that will be used for the search robots that will roam the planet Mars during the Mars missions in 2030. On Friday, December 9th, the Lincoln Park Academy Concert Chorale participated in Disney’s Candlelight Processional which was held at Epcot Center. The Candlelight Processional tells the story of Christmas in words and music including a mass choir joined by a 50-piece live orchestra and a guest celebrity narrator. The guest celebrity narrator for this evening was Anthony Mackie who played the Marvel Superhero Falcon in the movie Captain America: Civil War. This is the Lincoln Park Academy Concert Chorale’s 10th consecutive year being selected to participate in this very prestigious event.
The Lincoln Park Academy Key Club participated for the first time in the City of Fort Pierce “A Cattleman’s Christmas Parade.” The Sunrise Kiwanis Club sponsored and provided a small trailer along with a 1949 vintage tractor. The members worked very hard to build a float. Forty-two students walked behind the float and represented the newly reinstated club and our Greyhound pride.
