Kickball: Students vs. the Faculty

To culminate a recent Principal’s Reading Challenge, the top readers in grades 3-5 played kickball against Weatherbee Faculty.  All other students who obtained their goal were spectators for this event.  We won’t say who won, but a fun time was had by all!  

Key Club Installation of Officers

The Key Club is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through service to others and is supported and mentored under the umbrella of the Kiwanis International family. Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities. New members of the Key Club were recently inducted for the coming school year.  

Keiser University donates computers to Centennial High

Keiser University recently donated 10 Apple G4 computer systems, complete with a 19″ monitor, tower, keyboard, and mouse to be utilized in the television production Career and Technical Education program at St. Lucie West Centennial High School. Students will be able to use the technology in their career curriculum, as well as to produce live and videotaped programming for the school. St. Lucie Public Schools Criminal Justice senior completers were afforded the opportunity to be recognized by President Leslie Kristof of Keiser University, Judge Shaniek Mills-Maynard, Port St. Lucie Police Department’s Assistant Chief Richard DelToro, Fort Pierce Police Department Deputy Chief Kenny Norris, St. Lucie Public School’s Board Members (Dr. Mills, Mrs. Hawley, and Mr. Kelly), Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jon Prince, and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Helen Wild. Kansas Corn Stem Visits Northport!

Talk about a corny guest speaker! Sixth-grade students in Mr. Fess’ Northstars STEM class received a virtual visit from Bill Johnston of “Kansas Corn STEM.” The students learned all about how Ethanol is made from corn and explored the benefits of using Ethanol when compared to traditional fossil fuels. These students are in the middle of their green-energy unit on Biomass. They are also working on designing and building their own Biomass demonstration projects.

Kafele Sends Positive Message

“Principal Baruti Kafele, my name is Tyler, and it’s important that you know my name.” These were the words of a Palm Pointe middle school student who echoed the heart of the guest speaker’s message to students while shaking hands with the larger-than-life Kafele.  According to on-looker Principal Kathy Perez, the 12-year-old heeded the powerful message of being mission-minded and developing the necessary passion, purpose, and drive to persevere through challenges for success in school and in life. K. Pearson Annual Beach Clean-Up

Please join us to honor the memory of our exceptional marine science teacher as we continue her legacy of love for students, learning, and the natural wonders of our coast.   The 5th annual Kimberly Pearson Memorial Beach Clean Up will take place on Saturday, March 2nd at Pepper Park, Pavilion 1, from 9am-noon. K-9s On Patrol

On Thursday, January 17, students in the Law Academy at SLW Centennial High School learned about K9 Patrols and how K9s are used in law enforcement. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office shared information on how the dogs are trained, handled, and used in law enforcement.

K-5 Lawnwood Students Enjoyed a Fun, Motivational Program

DJ Corey visited Lawnwood Elementary School and encouraged students to always strive for excellence. This special music performance motivated students to make good choices and put forth good effort.  Students enjoyed dancing to DJ Corey’s hit song “Pass The Test”.   It was another amazing day at Lawnwood Elementary School.  GO LEOPARDS!

K-5 Art is Thriving at CAST

Ms. Swabon’s elementary visual art students at CAST have been submitting their art for various projects.  Some included here are: leaf rubbings, creating a “found object” color wheel, drawing and photography of everyday life and documentary photography.

Justice Jam! Indian River State College and Criminal Justice Students

Junior Beta Club at Palm Pointe donates to Operation Christmas Child

The Junior Beta Club members led by Ms. Hearl, a fourth grade teacher at Palm Pointe Educational Research School at Tradition, brought in shoe boxes full of items for Operation Christmas Child.  The boxes will be shipped to boys and girls around the world.  The students are also collecting and donating toys for Toys for Tots. Mr. Terrance Barriner, teacher at Forest Grove Middle School, read the Juneteenth Resolution to the School Board on June 9, 2015. The 19th of June is the freedom forerunner to the 13th Amendment, which implemented freedom for all slaves in the United States, Juneteenth Independence Day completes the cycle of Independence Day Celebrations in America. The Juneteenth celebration commemorates the emancipation of Southern Blacks on June 19, 1865, two and half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
