The Key Club, Student Government, and Senior Class Officers kicked off the “START with Hello” initiative to address social isolation. Their goal is to help create a school where everyone feels connected and included. Students wore identifying t-shirts and gave bracelets to those with whom they interacted. On Saturday September 29, 2018, Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion’s Raider Team attended their first Raider Meet of the season at Atlantic Coast High School. Our mixed team of six males and four females came in second place under the host school Atlantic Community High School. The Raider Event consisted of: a rope bridge construction, 500 push-ups, 500 sit-ups, 100 pull-ups, a mile run while carrying a stretcher with a stimulated patient, a half mile kettlebell carry, and a tractor trailer tire flip weighing in at over 400 lbs. Students are having a fabulous time enjoying cookies and hot chocolate at their book club. Over 60 students, ranging from grades 5-8, are currently participating in a book club reading, The House With a Clock in It’s Walls, by John Bellairs. Students meet in the mornings with Media Specialist Amy Fazzalaro to read and discuss the book. After completing the book, everyone will meet at the movie theater to view the film. It is exciting to see our students thrilled about reading.
On October 1st, in observance of National Bullying Prevention Month, students and staff at Southern Oaks Middle School “Stomp Out” bullying by uniting on the SOMS football field to create a school-wide message: NO BULLYING!

This year’s Governing Board appointees include four new members and one re-appointed member—the Board’s current Vice Chair Tonya Matthews. During the first year of the Port Saint Lucie High School’s Biomedical Program taught by Ms. Irene Ruiz, students are introduced to “The Case of Anna Garcia.” Students spend the year solving the case of this fictitious character, reading through autopsy reports, medical records, and learning about her medical conditions. On Tuesday, 9.18.2018, Bridget Coghlan, from St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit, came to speak to the students about crime scene investigating, fingerprinting, and analyzing blood spatters at the scene. National Custodial Workers Day 2018 is Tuesday, October 2, 2018 in the USA. National Custodial Workers Day is sometimes referred to as National Custodial Workers Recognition Day or National Custodian Appreciation Day, but they do all aim for the same thing — thank our custodial workers for what they do every day. We appreciate the duties and responsibilities fulfilled by our custodial teams. The results of their work, namely clean and safe environments, are important and indeed recognizable. Thank you!

Northport dads Rock! This year we had an unprecedented number of dads join for a light breakfast and a special time to fellowship with other children and their dads. It was a wonderful event that was a super success. Dads pledged to support their children and their children’s teachers. They also promised to stay informed about their children’s behavioral and academic progress and encourage their children every day. WE LOVE OUR DADS @NP.

On Wed. Sept. 26, we were privileged to host LPA dads as they brought their children to school, showing their committed support in their children’s education and social and emotional well-being. During our time together, we recognized, appreciated, and encouraged dads to continue partnering with LPA and together we will equip “our children” with the knowledge, skills, and desire to succeed. LPA is proud of our dads!
@NP, students earn SAIL Notes for PBIS or Positive Behavior Intervention Support. So many community partners, such as First United Methodist Church, volunteers, Cindy Cairo, Women of the Moose and so many individual donors give school supplies and books to the children of our school. We have shirts donated by Joe the Biker with an anti-bullying logo and so many more items that need to get into the hands of our kids. The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) was started in 2002 as a pilot program through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in four states with the purpose of introducing school children to fresh fruits and vegetables. The FFVP was made a permanent grant program nationwide in 2008 and is funded through the Farm Bill. On Sept. 27th thirty-one TCHS HOSA Club members traveled from TCHS to Jupiter to participate in HOSA’s Regional Fall Leadership Conference. During the conference, HOSA students had the opportunity to observe the parliamentary process by listening to campaign speeches and voting for different candidates running for their prospective offices at the regional level. Members also voted on this year’s HOSA t-shirt design as well as learning about the HOSA national service project: National Pediatric Cancer Project.
