Morningside Elementary Artists Create Self Portraits

Students in Mrs. McKenna’s 1st grade class took part in a study of Frida Kahlo for Hispanic Heritage Month. After learning about Frida Kahlo’s inspirational story, students designed and created their own paintbrushes and completed self-portraits.

Morningside Elementary announces spelling bee winners

 Morningside Elementary School recently held it 2011-2012 Spelling Bee. Morningside Elementary Abstract Artists

Third grade students at Morningside Elementary participated in researching the life and art of abstract artists such as Pablo Picasso during their enrichment MTSS. They were able to identify how the illustrations and art enhanced the mood of the stories they were reading. Then, they replicated one of Picasso’s famous works called “The Three Musicians”. Students created collages by layering geometric shapes, construction paper cutouts, paint and other materials to create these eye catching masterpieces.  

Morningside Elementary 5th Graders Spend Saturday with Scientists

BIG excitement for our 5th Grade Blue Jays! Morningside Elementary School 5th Grade Blue Jays brought incredible energy and curiosity to Saturday with Scientists! Five outstanding students jumped into hands‑on labs, exploring Biologist DNA Extraction, Paleontology, and Robotics. They uncovered pieces of the past, experimented with real scientific tools, and tackled each challenge with enthusiasm, teamwork, and confidence. Their passion for learning was unmistakable as they explored everything from ancient fossils to future‑focused technology. Morningside Dads Take Your Child To School Day

Donuts for Dads was a great success at Morningside Elementary.  Dads, grandads, uncles, and some moms brought their students to school from 8:15-8:45 am.  They enjoyed doughnuts and coffee with their students in the cafeteria and in classrooms across the campus.   .

Morningside Creates Art to Remember

Morningside students are creating a picture of “the Future” to help remember their past. Parents will be able to view and create gifts, stamps, and other items with their child’s art work.

Morningside Connects to the Community

Our Everglades team wanted to spread the word about the importance of the Everglades ecosystem to our community. They used technology to help create information sheets based on the Everglades habitats. Tavola’s Pizzeria on PSL Blvd, a frequent supporter of Morningside Elementary students, agreed to allow us to feature these sheets at their pizzeria. We are so thankful for the community partners that join with us to celebrate the success of our students and help get the word out about the importance of the Everglades.  

Morningside Chorus Presents Traditions Around the World

On Thursday, December 11, 2014,  the Morningside Elementary Chorus under the direction of Donna Calvert presented a upbeat singing and speaking presentation for parents and guests to celebrate traditions around the world.  The students dressed in traditional costumes from their country or state and told about the  traditions that are part of that country’s holiday time. Student’s also played bells, tambourines and other percussion instruments throughout the program.             .

Morningside Celebrates their Shining Stars

Over the past few weeks, students and teachers have worked very hard to “show what they can do” on the third progress monitoring assessment of the F.A.S.T. Assessment. Although all students tried their very best, a perfect score is hard to achieve. Morningside celebrated the students who achieved this amazing task. Morningside celebrates Barbara Immediato and Peggy McBee

Both ladies celebrated their upcoming retirement with staff, teachers, family and other guests. Barbara (Mrs. I) has worked for 17 years in St. Lucie County working in our elementary schools with small groups of students to raise their confidence and achievement scores.  For the past 46 years, Peggy (Mrs. McBee) has taught high school students in Physical Education and has specialized in Gifted Curriculum throughout our county at the elementary level.  Best Wishes to you both! Morningside 5th-Graders’ Memorable Performance Event

In collaboration with drama students from Port Saint Lucie High School, 5th-grade students at Morningside Elementary experienced the performance of a lifetime. Over six weeks, high school students visited during PE and music resource classes to work with our 5th graders. Together, they learned and practiced routines to various songs, fostering teamwork and creativity. The high school students mentored the younger students, helping them build confidence and stage presence. The culmination of their efforts was a special performance held in the MSE cafeteria, where students showcased their routines to classmates, teachers, and other staff members. Fifth Grade students at Morningside Elementary learned lessons in motion and energy. They designed, built and launched rockets along with their teachers and former Morningside teacher, Tom Filipkowski. The students enjoyed their experience and gained a deeper understanding of science standards.

Morningside 5th Graders Collaborate to Explore the Planets

Fifth-grade AMP students at Morningside Elementary are delving into the wonders of our solar system as they explore the planets. Aligned with Florida Science Standards SC.5.E.5.1, SC.5.E.5.2, and SC.5.E.5.3, students are building knowledge of planetary characteristics, movements, and patterns. Through collaboration, one student researches while the other partner takes notes, and together they develop their PowerPoint using a shared digital document. This teamwork not only strengthens their science knowledge but also builds skills in communication, teamwork, and technology. More parents graduate from Title I basic computer classes

Parents from St. Lucie County Title I Schools have finished a Basic Computer Class at the Title I Parent Resource Center at Garden City Annex. Parents attended classes each week for seven weeks to learn basic computer skills, Internet Safety, how to use Skyward to monitor their child’s progress and learn to use Microsoft Word. The goal of the program is to help parents have the skills needed to help their child with their school work and to enhance the parents’ computer skills.
