Morningside Elementary Promotes Trustworthiness!

Parents, friends and neighbors honored our February students of the month for the character trait of Trustworthiness.  Each child was given a certificate and a positive affirmation about why they are trustworthy.  The students then enjoyed a cookie and time with their guests. Morningside Elementary Prepares For A World Odyssey

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL – St. Lucie Public Schools is proud to announce that Morningside Elementary’s (MSE) Odyssey of the Mind Team is advancing to the World Finals competition slated for May 23 – May 26 in Ames, Iowa. Morningside’s team will convene with approximately 850 other teams for what is deemed to be the largest creative problem-solving competition. Blue Jay Pride Soars! Morningside Elementary is beyond proud to congratulate our incredible Odyssey of the Mind Team on their 1st Place win at States! Morningside Elementary Odyssey of the Mind team going to World!

The “Not so Haunted House”  team from Morningside Elementary took their show to Palms district competition and won first place.  On Saturday, April 12, 2014, the team competed against 18 other state winners and won first place launching them to World.  Our team will be participating in Odyssey of the Mind world competition from May 28-31, 2014.

Morningside was so proud to cheer on our five Odyssey of the Mind teams as they competed at Regionals. Over the past several months, these dedicated students have worked together to solve problems, build creative ideas, and think in new and imaginative ways. Morningside Elementary kindergartners create bravery badges

Morningside Elementary kindergartners Jeremiah Griffin and Elijah Laguerre are making bear claws for bravery. Kindergarten students listened to a story about a Native American who was brave in the face of danger. Students then shared their experiences of being brave in different circumstances and made their own bear claw for bravery badge.  

Morningside Elementary kindergarten class receives flag from captain

 Students in Jean Constantine’s kindergarten class at Morningside Elementary School had made and sent valentine cards to USAF Captain Brandon Daigle overseas and the class was surprised when he sent them sent a big flag from his plane on the dashboard as he flew reconnaissance over Afghanistan. He also included a certificate to the class (by name) and two photos, one of him with the valentines and one of his whole squadron. Morningside Elementary gifted students perform in holiday jeopardy show

Morningside Elementary gifted students Cody Jennings, Elize Starr, Winter Pepitone, Kaylyn Redway perform a rendition of the Island of Misfit Toys during the school’s holiday show. Holiday Jeopardy was created and performed by the gifted students in first through fifth grade classes work with drama students from Port St. Lucie High School who coached and directed the young thespians in their holiday show.

Morningside Elementary students get a lesson on owl pellets

Morningside Elementary third grade classrooms had the privilege of having Hobe Sound Nature Center come to all of the classes and present a lesson on owls.  Students were able to see a live owl and learn about their habitat, the foods that they eat and actually dissect an owl pellet. Ella Walby and Amaya Swelland are observing an owl pellet and identifying the parts of it.  Thanks to Tracy Boothby and DebbieFritz-Quincy for coming to the school for this great learning experience.

Morningside Elementary Celebrates Kindness Week

Morningside Elementary School proudly kicked off Kindness Week today with a schoolwide celebration focused on compassion and community. Every student took part by signing our large Kindness Quilt, symbolizing our shared commitment to treating one another with respect and empathy. Students wrote messages of kindness on paper chain links. We also launched our collection drive for Grace Packs, gathering Granola and Nutri‑Grain bars to support children in need throughout our community.
