Weatherbee Elementary School supports Jump Rope for Heart

Thank you to all the students, teacher and staff that participated in the recent Jump Rope for Heart event at Weatherbee Elementary School. All students had the opportunity to participate in this community service learning program of the American Heart Association. This was an excellent way to promote knowledge in the importance of developing heart-healthy habits; that being physically active can be fun; that raising funds to support cardiovascular research and education helps save lives in the community and across the country. Weatherbee Elementary School and United Way Partnership

Weatherbee Elementary School is proud to partner with United Way of St. Lucie and Okeechobee to provide impactful enrichment groups that support the whole child. Through this partnership, our 5th-grade students are participating in an engaging novel study during small-group sessions. These sessions focus on strengthening academic skills, building social-emotional awareness, fostering positive peer relationships, developing goal-setting strategies, and increasing student confidence. Weatherbee Elementary safety patrol visits Sea World as reward

In appreciation of their tireless commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment for their peers, a group of Weatherbee Elementary fifth graders recently enjoyed a day at Sea World. Members of the safety patrol, supervised by Roberta Weil, and the Weatherbee morning news crew, directed by Robyn Wright, worked daily throughout the school year to be positive role models and help the entire student body exhibit Mariner SAIL behavior expectations. Weatherbee Elementary safety patrol earns special trip

Weatherbee Elementary Safety Patrol members celebrated a year of successful service to their school with a field trip to SeaWorld in Orlando.  Members not only assisted students and staff at arrival and dismissal each day, but truly served as role models for younger students.  Students participated in a fund-raising event with the assistance of Weatherbee’s faculty and staff members in order to participate.  Students were excited as many were visiting SeaWorld for the very first time. A special thank you to Roberta Weil, Safety Patrol Coordinator, as well as many parents, faculty and staff members who served as chaperones for this event. What a great … Read More

Weatherbee Elementary Receives Gold Award for PBIS Model School

Jennifer Avellino, Assistant Principal of Weatherbee Elementary, accepted the Gold Award for the 2012-2013 PBIS Model School at the School Board Meeting on May 27, 2014. Five schools from St. Lucie County were recognized as PBIS Model School for the State. Along with Weatherbee are, Bayshore Elementary, Oak Hammock K-8, Palm Pointe Educational Research School and West Gate K-8, each receiving the Bronze Award. There are approximately 1500 schools across the state of Florida who particpate in PBIS, and less than 10 % are chosen as PBIS Model Schools. Congratulations to all our schools! Weatherbee Elementary promotes reading in principal’s challenge

Weatherbee Elementary School celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday this week by kicking off its Principal’s Reading Challenge, with the entire faculty and staff encouraging students to read as much as possible to improve their literacy. Weatherbee Elementary parents learn about utilizing the Parent Portal

Parents at Weatherbee Elementary recently attended a workshop to learn about accessing the Parent Portal on the St Lucie Public Schools website and the “Skyward Family Access” program. Marj Armstrong of the Title I and Curriculum and Instruction departments, and Michael McCarthy of the 21st Century program, presented the workshop to parents. Parents learned how to access their child’s school grades, classroom assignments, and maintain vital teacher correspondence through the web based system. Weatherbee Elementary names spelling bee winners

Weatherbee Elementary students participated in the school’s annual Spelling Bee recently.  Those who placed in the Spelling Bee are, from left,  Jessica Eastland, a fourth grade student taking third place, Britney Eliassaint, a fifth grade student taking second place and Alexa Torres, a fourth grade student gaining the first place position and serving as Weatherbee’s representative for the upcoming District Spelling Bee.

Weatherbee Elementary Kindergarten Students Sets Sail

Weatherbee Elementary Kindergarten students set sail on an exciting math adventure during Topic 9, Unit 6: Let’s Investigate – Boat Ride! While having tons of fun, students reviewed and practiced math standards NSO.1.1 and NSO.2.1. NSO.1.1: Students counted forward and backward within 120, practiced skip counting by 2s to 20, and by 5s to 100.  NSO.2.1: Students worked on recalling addition facts with sums to 10 and related subtraction facts with automaticity. Weatherbee Elementary kicks off motivational reading challenge

Ronald McDonald visited Weatherbee Elementary School recently to ignite the Fall Reading Challenge to all students at the school. This program entitled “Bookin’ with Ronald McDonald” helps motivate students to read more often and with excitement, because reading is fun and will help them to succeed in the future. There was a commitment of all students to read over 2,500 books collectively before December 11. When students meet and exceed this goal, the school’s administrators and staff have vowed to happily work at a local restaurant cooking and serving the McDonald’s menu to all who attend.

Weatherbee Elementary K-2 Students Do Yoga

Did you know yoga helps your brain and body grow stronger? In PE, our K–2 students have been exploring yoga as part of our Educational Movement unit. Through stretching, breathing exercises, and mindful movement, students are discovering how yoga improves focus, calmness, strength, flexibility, and balance! They are learning how to control their breathing, different yoga poses, how to practice self-awareness, and build confidence while having fun. Weatherbee Elementary was thrilled to welcome the Harrison Baseball Team to campus for a special day with our 4th graders! Our students loved reading together, sharing pizza, and having meaningful conversations with these outstanding athletes. Weatherbee Elementary Embraces the Power of Yet

The Weatherbee administrative team read a school-wide read-aloud of the book The Magical Yet to launch the school theme of growth mindset. Students were able to follow along with their very own copy! Weatherbee Elementary Celebrates Dr. Seuss

Weatherbee Elementary School joyfully celebrated Dr. Seuss’s Birthday on Monday, March 2nd, with a special visit from the Daughters of the American Revolution, or otherwise known as the DAR! Our kindergarten and first-grade students were delighted as these wonderful ladies spent time reading aloud in classrooms, bringing beloved Dr. Seuss books to life with enthusiasm and expression. Weatherbee Elementary Captures the Flag in Math Learning Fun

Excitement was in the air in Mrs. Frisby’s classroom as students geared up for an interactive math challenge! Our math coach, Mrs. Proctor, led the class in a high-energy review game called “Capture the Flag” to help students prepare for their Unit 5 District Assessment on decimal comparison and addition and subtraction. Working collaboratively in small groups, students turned to their textbooks to solve problems listed on their index cards. TRASHKETBALL in 5th Grade ELA = Learning + Competition + FUN! Recently, our 5th-grade ELA classroom turned into a game zone where brains met basketball! Students were paired up and given a challenge: A question popped up on the screen and the 30-second timer started! Partners quickly discussed and wrote their answer on whiteboards.
