Northport K-8 students enjoy unique PBS activity

 Northport K-8 students in Georgia Stone’s sixth grade class enjoy a unique PBS or Positive Behavior Support activity.  Students are using critical thinking skills, following directions and team building techniques to produce an authentic product.  After viewing Mrs. Stone modeling crocheting techniques, reading exact directions and getting the yarn and hooks together and understanding the tools, students are refining techniques to make their own scarves.  Students will give the scarves as gifts or enjoy for themselves.  Students did an excellent job decoding instructions, monitoring each others progress and cultivating a positive classroom community that is celebrated with enthusiasm.

Northport K-8 students celebrate National Novel Writing Month

Northport K-8 Northstar students in grades six, seven and eight under the direction of instructor Kathy White celebrated November as National Novel Writing Month.  The project involves amateur and professional writers from all over the world.  The Young Writer’s program allows students to choose their own word goal.  Mrs. White’s Gifted and Enriched students wrote from a range of 2500 to well over 4000 words.  Eighty five percent of the team succeeded or surpassed their word goals with eighth grader, Emily Royo, exceeding her word count by 10,000 words for a total of 14,987 words published.  Students used all aspects … Read More

Northport K-8 School welcomed students, parents and grandparents back to a wonderful kickoff for a fresh and positive new school year! Northport K-8 School Submits Spelling Bee Champion to Scripps!

Northport K-8 School is pleased that we can announce our 2015 Spelling Bee champion. Our first place winner is eighth grade Northstar student, Ashley Quijada who was submitted by instructor, Nick Carey. Ashley will represent Northport at the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee on March 14 at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center. The competition went five rounds with the winning word as “epoch.” Students withstood intense pressure as the words became increasingly more difficult. Northport K-8 School Scientists Integrate Scientific Thinking

Northport K-8 students in grades six through eight participated in the Northport Science Fair recently. The young scientists entered projects in eight categories. The projects integrated scientific thinking and processes with literacy, writing and mathematics. Students researched and developed a problem statement which had real world applications, wrote cited background research reports, formulated a testable and quantifiable hypothesis based on their understanding of the background information, designed and performed their controlled experiment, made statistical calculations to analyze the data and stated their findings in a conclusion. What a smooth opening day at Northport K-8 School. The teachers greeted their new students and parents with smiles, hugs, and high fives. Northport K8 school chorus performs spectacular winter concert

The Northport K-8 School choral performance held recently in the school courtyard under the moon and stars was a glorious night of engaged students, parents, families and staff enjoying the annual “Winter Concert!” The event was kicked off by the middle grades students singing a stirring rendition of “America the Beautiful.” The students, led by Choral Director James Kirk, then performed a variety of mixed arrangements, interspersing traditional Christmas carols with more contemporary arrangements. Northport K-8 School celebrated Grandparents Day recently with a grand flair and style! Hundreds of grandparents and extended family members celebrated their children and the community efforts of the school by visiting the cafeteria and courtyard and lunching, picnic style. Culinary Arts instructor, Rachel Ellsworth and her students prepared a wonderful salad bar and sweet treats for grandparents to enjoy. At Northport K-8 School, the Fall season brings an uptick in literary opportunities for students to enjoy the crisp pages of a well written book and the tales of authors that many students enjoy reading. The fall season at Northport K-8 School brings the book fair that is decorated with pumpkins, acorns and falling leaves. The book fair runs from October 28 through November 7. Northport K-8 Rising Stars Wax Museum

Northport K-8’s Rising Stars annual Wax Museum was a wonderful sight to see! Students truly came to life as their favorite characters in grades K-2, musicians in third grade, history of events timeline in fourth grade, and scientists in fifth grade. Families and other guests enjoyed learning from the “wax figures” as students showcased their research, creativity, and confidence. Students shared information dressed in authentic costumes representing their topic. Northport K-8 receives certification from national wildlife federation

Northport K-8 School has been recognized as a certified Natural Wildlife Sanctuary by the Natural Wildlife Federation.  The mission of the federation is to inspire Americans to protect wildlife for our children’s future. Northport K-8 Participates in Relay For Life 2019

Northport K-8 participated in the 2019 Relay For Life recently held at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center this month. Northport is happy to provide community service and to receive the lessons that the students learn about cancer, care, kindness, and empathy. Northport’s team won Best in Show for the Lip Sync contest and participated in the Luminaria Walk and the Road to Recovery. We are so thankful for our entire Relay For Life team for their participation!

Northport K-8 participates in Relay for Life 2013 walk

Northport K-8 School administration, faculty, staff, parents and students participated in a very meaningful way at this year’s Relay For Life 2013! Through terrific support and dedication, the school’s Relay For Life team was able to offer a donation to the American Cancer Society that far surpassed their goal of $2,500. Northport K-8 raised $3,400, decorated luminaries and stars in honor of loved ones who succumbed to or beat cancer, decorated the school booth and walked the walk! Some of the fundraisers held at Northport K-8 School were a High Heel relay race for seventh and eighth grade boys, a “No Collar … Read More

Northport K-8 Navigators Promote “Adopt Don’t Shop!”

Northport K-8 middle school art class students created an art project with the theme Adopt Don’t Shop in hopes of raising awareness of the adoption for cats and dogs. Students created a colorful background collage using reused paper, creating a new purpose for the paper. The collage served as a symbolic gesture for animals because those who are adopted gain a new purpose in life. Northport K-8 Hosts Camp UFLI for Early Readers

Northport K-8 kindergarten and first-grade families gathered under twinkling string lights and the warm glow of faux campfires for a night of literacy, laughter, and learning at our Camp UFLI. Hosted by our dedicated literacy coach, interventionist, and primary teachers, the event transformed our Student and Family Resource Center into a cozy campground where reading came alive in the most imaginative ways. Northport K-8 School is proud to announce the school based Volunteer of the Year, Rosemary Lambert and the Senior Volunteer of the Year, Bill Arnold.  Mrs. Lambert has dedicated her services to the school on a daily basis for the last three years.  She is on campus each day volunteering in the choral and band departments, sewing and cooking in the culinary department and generally assisting wherever she is needed.  Mr. Arnold has been a fixture at the school for the last four years.  He has been an integral asset in bringing the school’s Veteran Partners In Education  program to fruition.  Through … Read More
