Northport K-8 School celebrates Fall literary season

At Northport K-8 School, the Fall season brings an uptick in literary opportunities for students to enjoy the crisp pages of a well written book and the tales of authors that many students enjoy reading. The fall season at Northport K-8 School brings the book fair that is decorated with pumpkins, acorns and falling leaves. The book fair runs from October 28 through November 7. Nothport media specialist Lynne Gruszka and prevention specialist Mary Ann Warren have collaborated in a Trick or Treat Trivia Contest to students using questions from some spooky authors. Students thrive on tales of terror and mystery and are anxiously awaiting the contest. Some examples of the questions that students will have the opportunity to answer are, “What are the names of the four Houses of Hogwarts from the Harry Potter series?” “Bram Stoker, author of Dracula, was inspired to obtain the name of his main character from reading about what country?” “What is the title of R.L Stine’s first Goosebumps book?” “In Edgar Allen Poe’s ‘The Fall of the House of Usher,’ where does Roderick ask the narrator to help him bury his twin sister Madeline?” and in the book, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving, The Headless Horseman is the ghost of ___ ____who has been shot by a cannonball during the Revolutionary War!” Students also have the opportunity to estimate the number of kernels of candy corn in a decorated jar on the circulation desk! Top spooky autumn book selections include “Goosebumps” and top requested book by middle grades students is Stephen King’s, “Dr. Sleep!” Happy fall from Northport K-8 School! Pictured, from left, are students Jaida McCarthy, Britney Kanhai and Rayana Bohorie.
