Outboard Marine Service Technology Virtual Field Trip

St Lucie Public Schools middle school students participated in a Virtual Field Trip to St. Lucie West Centennial High’s Outboard Marine Service Technology Program. The middle schoolers were able to see hands-on activities on electrical troubleshooting, engine mechanics troubleshooting, and marine service lab activities, and ask questions. Big thanks to Mr. Bob Kachanis Outboard Marine Service Instructor, his students, the St. Lucie Public Schools Media Services team for recording, St. Lucie West K8, Southern Oaks Middle, Oak Hammock K8, Dan McCarty Middle, and Allapattah Flats K8 for a great field trip!

Outboard Marine Program Off to a Great Start

St. Lucie West Centennial’s Outboard Marine Technology program is off to a great start! Students are learning about general lab safety, identifying tools needed for their work and measuring electricity and temperature. The students are actively engaged and excited about the authentic learning that will take place this year.

Outboard Marine Class Visits Ft. Pierce Marina

This week SLW Centennial’s Outboard Marine class embarked on an educational field trip to the Ft. Pierce Marina – River Walk. The trip included 24 enthusiastic students who were eager to learn more about their industry of interest. The visit included the presence of Ft. Pierce’s Mayor Linda Hudson, adding a special touch to the event. Students had the unique opportunity to speak with professionals from various marine-related fields. Barbara Ricks, the Business Education teacher at St. Lucie West K-8, accepted the STAR (Special Thanks And Recognition) Award at the School Board Meeting on February 10, 2015. Mrs. Ricks is one dedicated teacher and employee. Athletes share a lot of similarities before a big home game -pride, pregame jitters, and excitement are just a few of them. But this year, NPK-8 athletes are sharing more than just their feelings. Our Army JROTC Jaguar Cadets Prepare Thanksgiving Meals with the Big Heart Brigade!

On Monday and Tuesday, November 19 and 20, 2018, many cadets led by Cadet Captain Brianna Harris and Cadet Sergeant James Mikovsky, along with Cadet Sergeant First Class Lawrence Moleon Mathews, and Cadet Private Heaven Savinon, Cadet 1st Lieutenant Lila Meade, Cadet Corporal Ashley Armendarez, Cadet Master Sergeant Max Marrero, Cadet Private Damien Borkowski, volunteered to help the St. Lucie County Fire District in the Annual Big Heart Brigade. Osceola Magnet School adopts GCELA

A third grade class at Osceola Magnet School in Vero Beach adopted HeatherNesbitt’s first grade classroom for a “give back” Christmas.  The Osceola students all wrote two letters, wrapped a book and tied a holiday pencil on each package. It was truly amazing to watch the students open their gifts, read their letters and get really excited about a new book!  As part of a writing lesson, GCELA students wrote thank you letters to the Osceola Magnet School students.

Orlando Science Center Visits Lakewood Park

On March 23rd, Orlando Science Center visited Lakewood Park Elementary. During the day, 4th and 5th grade students learned about potential and kinetic energy with real-life angry birds, explored the scientific method with mealworms, used coding to operate robots, and experimented with flying drones. In the evening, parents and students experienced 15 different STEM stations. From plants, to airplanes, to fractions, families had a blast!

O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Supports PSLHS JROTC Fundraiser

On Saturday, March 30, 2019, Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion conducted a fundraiser in the parking lot of O’Reilly’s Auto Parts to raise money for the Regional Champion Drill Team. Cadets pre-sold tickets for several weeks prior to the fundraiser to help increase participation in the event. The 23 cadets who participated raised enough money to offset the cost of attending the State Drill Meet coming up on April 13, 2019. The cadets are now able to afford transportation to the State Championship Drill Meet in Lakeland, Florida!

Operation Stoplifting at Southport Middle School

Students from each Social Studies class at Southport Middle School were invited to a visit the media center for a presentation by the Port Saint Lucie Police Department for a program initiative called Operation Stoplifting. The program led by Stacy Paton, Crime Prevention Specialist for the PSLPD, and Officer Frank Borges who updated students on the hazards of shoplifting. Operation Math at St. Lucie West K8

At Shark Nation, they have heart, literally! Operation Math was an outstanding mathematical and collaborative success. It was time for fifth-grade Sharks to put their skills to the test! They scrubbed in and rotated through different surgical suites (classrooms) to answer and solve questions based on various math benchmark standards they learned throughout the school year. As they successfully solved problems, they repaired the patient’s organs. A huge special thank you to our incredibly dedicated and creative fifth-grade team, and shout out to the amazing parents who donated gowns to help almost one hundred students participate in this engaging activity!

Operation Graduation Night at Centennial High School

Operation Graduation Centennial hosted its very first Operation Graduation Night  on August 27.  Centennial Administrators, Guidance Counselors and  several teachers participated in the event to provide parents and seniors with information about graduation requirements.  

Opening Doors: ESOL Parent Night at Cen10 Unites School & Home

Centennial hosted an ESOL Parent Night on October 17th, and a session in the morning on October 18th, to the parents of our English Language Learner students.  The turnout was fantastic and with the assistance of our amazing ESOL department, parents learned all about the supports we offer for students and families.  They also learned about accessing their child’s information on Skyward and locate their graduation requirements.  

Opening days are active at Floresta Elementary

Floresta Elementary School teachers returned for the new school year on Monday, August 13, to a full schedule of Professional Development trainings and a variety of other opening week activities.  Pictured are teachers participating in an energizing teambuilding activity, from Kagan’s Silly Sports and Goofy Games publication. This is one of many research based Kagan activities teachers will put to use in the classroom this school year.

Opening Ceremonies – Leadership Day

St. Lucie Public Schools leaders gathered on July 28 for the 2016-2017 “Opening Ceremonies” for the new academic year. Superintendent E. Wayne Gent set a positive tone for high expectations and continued trends of success. School leaders enjoyed a day filled with collegial working and learning opportunities to enhance planning for the coming year. ‪
