Students in Mrs. Mukhamedov’s 5th-grade class at Morningside Elementary prepare for a Penda Party. Penda is an online, interactive gaming platform that brings students real-life experiences tied with formative questions to test their understanding. Students are encouraged to pass 2 lessons with 80% or better each week, and they will have an opportunity to win Penda Prizes! Ask your child if they met their Penda goal for the week. Preapprenticeship Opportunities at TCHS – Engineering/Manufacturing

Mr. Phil DePuy’s students from Treasure Coast High School (Engineering and Manufacturing programs) were afforded an opportunity to participate in a presentation hosted by Colleen Gill (Apprenticeship Navigator) from CareerSource Research Coast.  Students learned about apprenticeship opportunities available to them after high school along with education and career options for those wanting to pursue a career in the industrial manufacturing industry.  Mr. DePuy offers the pre-apprenticeship program for students enrolled in his program at TCHS.  Ms. Colleen Gill is also an Engineering/Manufacturing Advisory Board Member.

Pre-apprenticeship Career Opportunities Soar in St Lucie Public Schools

St. Lucie Public Schools has five pre-apprenticeship programs preparing students for careers.  The pre-apprenticeship Career and Technical Education (CTE) high school programs are located across the District: Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering at Treasure Coast High Building Construction Technologies at Port St Lucie High Outboard Marine Service Technology at St Lucie West Centennial High Pharmacy Technician at Fort Pierce Westwood Academy – The W.E.S.T. Prep Magnet Technical Design at Port St Lucie High The pre-apprenticeships offered in CTE at St. Lucie Public Schools lead into registered apprenticeship trades of Carpenter, Industrial Manufacturing Technician, Truss Design Technician, Pharmacy Technician, and Yacht Service Technician.

Pre-Service Week at Southport Middle School

Teachers had a fun time engaged in a learning activity on empathy where they worked in pairs on a paper plate activity.  This activity demonstrated that you do not always need to know the full picture in order to have empathy.  “Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another and feeling with the heart of another.” – Alfred Adler.

Pre-Kindergarten at Mariposa Elementary is Building Sentences

At Mariposa Elementary, Mrs. Bonilla’s Pre-Kindergarten class answered the following focus question during literacy centers: How do we build sentences? The students spoke about sentences being made up of words and how some can be short, and some can be long. Students were shown a photograph where they needed to use vocabulary to explain what was happening in the photo. Pre-k students at Weatherbee Elementary have a curious visitor

As a reward for staying on task and completing assigned computer activities, students in Elizabeth Sands’ VPK class at Weatherbee Elementary were recently visited by Cassandra Dillard and her special friend, Curious George. As Ms. Dillard read the Curious George Christmas Book, the children munched on chocolate chip cookies and giggled as Curious George acted out the parts in the story. Before leaving, Ms. Dillard and Curious George presented the students a plaque and a Barnes and Noble gift certificate. Pictured are the students, their teacher and special guests.

PPE Rockets Compete at State Beta Conference

Palm Pointe’s Junior Beta members attended the State Convention where they competed in many different areas such as visual arts, robotics, academics, team competitions, and even club competitions. Junior Beta Club is divided into two different groups. Division I is 4th and 5th graders and Division II is 6th-8th graders. Powerful Play in Kindergarten

Morningside teachers know that play is powerful! Students in kindergarten are enhancing their oral language development and vocabulary with Play with Purpose (PWP). Students read books and take on roles to enrich their play. PWP gives students a chance to model eye contact when speaking and listening, use correct language skills, explore other people’s viewpoints, and disagree in a positive way.

Holocaust Survivor Visit – 5th and 6th Grade Our 6th-grade students had the profound opportunity to participate in a Holocaust Survivor Visit as part of our annual Holocaust Remembrance observance. Power Squadron and local school team up for boating safety

Southport Middle School students, their siblings and parents have the opportunity to receive a lifetime boating license at the school. The basic aspects and skills of boating, including boat handling, fire safety, rules of the water, radio use, water rescue and much more are being taught by a licensed captain in the school’s media center. Those who pass the exam will receive a Florida lifetime boating license which is required to operate a boat in Florida waters. The course is free and lasts for eight weeks. Power Hour fundraiser at Palm Pointe

Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition had a school-wide event sponsored by P.B.I.S. (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support). Students in grades K-8 participated in a Power Hour to raise money for their teachers’ classrooms. All the proceeds from the event will be used in the classrooms for rewards for students with positive behavior. Teachers buy items that their students can purchase with rocket fuel  they have earned. POW/MIA Ceremony

On Friday, September 15th, the Port Saint Lucie Jaguar Battalion attended the POW/MIA Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Park to honor prisoners of war and those missing in action. Cadets were given a candle to light while guest speaker Retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Army Bobbie Williams spoke about the powerful sacrifice from the POW/MIA’s. Cadets were also able to witness the unveiling of the POW/MIA chair which symbolizes those who have not returned. It was a great success for all of the cadets that attended. 

Pouring Exceptional Coffee has Great Perks

At the St. Lucie County Annex building, the Student Perks Coffee Cart is more than just a morning pick-me-up—it’s a hands-on learning experience for Fort Pierce Central High School students in the ESE program, shares Mrs. Jeannette Baechle, Varying Exceptionalities teacher at FPC. Through this program, students gain valuable employment skills, including inventory management, food safety, customer service, and money handling. Potato Power at Oak Hammock K-8

Hakeem Mustfata, 6th Grade student at Oak Hammock K-8 was chosen to be a 2021 Broadcom nominee from the District for his science fair project called Potato Power. The project tested how much electricity could be produced along with the amount of time power was produced from cooked and uncooked potatoes. Hakeem’s science fair project was one of seven from the District to move on to the State’s Science Fair. Hakeem was the winner, out of 300 students, from the state of Florida, for the 2021 Broadcom MASTERS Math, Applied Science, Technology, and Engineering for Rising Stars, Junior Section. The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion recently participated in a Dreamfest held by Discovery Church at the Port Saint Lucie Civic Center. As part of the ceremony, the church honored veterans by having the cadet Color Guard present the national flag while members of the church sang the National Anthem and America the Beautiful.
