Titan Theatre Production is Under Way

Rehearsal is underway for Treasure Coast High School’s Titan Theatre Production of Puffs or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic. Puffs tells the story of an orphan boy Wayne Hopkins, played by Ricky Corbo, who finds out he is a wizard and the seven eventful years following his acceptance to a certain magic school in England. Filled with laughs and fun, this show is suitable for all ages! We hope to see you at Treasure Coast High School on October 27th, 28th, and 29th. Titan Born, Titan Bred!

New Cobras Building Foundations at FPC

Cobra Nation had another great week, especially in the 9th grade. Students had the opportunity to receive valuable information from IRSC’s Take Stock in Children on scholarship opportunities awarded to freshmen as they meet qualifications. Also, we wrapped up the topic “Building a Rapport with Teachers.” Ms. Brown’s students asked thoughtful questions to our amazing guests, who were able to provide valuable input, experience, and feedback. Lincoln Park Academy Orchestra Students Audition for All-State

These Lincoln Park Academy Orchestra students recently auditioned for the Florida Orchestra Association All-State Orchestra, held at Oslo Middle School on September 19.  Middle school student Christine Gergely auditioned on viola, and high school students Giselle Arana-Cisneros and Alexander Lopez auditioned on violin.  This will be Giselle’s fourth audition for the All-State orchestra!  The students prepared two etudes/excerpts in addition to scales and arpeggios. Results will be released in early November. Miss Laura Hopkins is the director of orchestras at Lincoln Park Academy.        

Port St. Lucie High School Meets with Treasure Coast Builders Association

FPC Students Attend College Fair

Fort Pierce Central High School students enjoyed sampling the possibilities of their academic futures this week at the district’s college fair. Dozens of universities and colleges came out to introduce our students to their academic institutions and their program offerings. Students filled out interest cards, talked about admission expectations, and scholarship opportunities. Cobras left the fair feeling more informed and ready to make plans towards their post-high school success. Thank you to Mrs. Armada, 12th grade Assistant Principal, and Mrs. Herbert, Counseling Director for coordinating our student participation.

Allapattah Students Participate in School-Wide PBIS Activities!

Allapattah’s first PBIS Event of the school year was Bingo! Students were able to use Gator Bucks for an opportunity to participate in Bingo! Students that won Bingo received a sweet prize. Students earn Gator Bucks by demonstrating our PBIS Expectations: Responsible, Respectful, and Safe. Allapattah has monthly PBIS events to encourage students to follow school-wide expectations.

SRE 5th Grade Living Organisms Activities

Savanna Ridge Elementary’s 5th grade students in Mrs. Spencer’s class enjoyed learning about living organisms through various projects and activities. Celery Experiment – Explored the process of water moving upward through the plant’s stem and into the leaves. Human Organs – students researched human organs and their functions.  The students did this as a jigsaw activity and followed up with a video report. FPC Ceramics II Students Dazzle in Texture

Mrs. Avra’s Ceramics II students started off the year by sampling a dozen textures. Texture is an Element of Art that describes and interprets the perceived or actual surface feeling of an object. Students were encouraged to investigate textures from nature by taking a walk outside, exploring their homes from garage to kitchen, and observing textures during their day-to-day lives while filling up a sketchbook page of 12 texture thumbnails, some in color, exploring high contrast, overlapping, depth, and the four qualities of line: thin to thick, light to dark, straight to undulating, and continuous to interrupted. Palm Pointe had their first Sit With A Friend day! Students who paid 10 Rocket Fuel were able to sit with friends from other classes during lunch time as a part of their P.B.I.S program.

21 Century students at CAM created paper laptops. They colored, cut, and glued their internal computer components into their paper motherboards. This skill will help them to identify alphabet keys on a keyboard.

Port St. Lucie High Culinary Arts Hosts Virtual Field Trip

Port St. Lucie High School Culinary Arts students hosted a virtual field trip for middle school students. Students from Dan McCarty Middle, St. Lucie West K8, Southern Oaks Middle, and Oak Hammock K8 stayed in their classrooms and via Microsoft Teams were able to meet Chef Foerster and his Culinary Arts students. FPC Gardening Club Goes Hydroponic!

Gardening Club President, Senior Jessica Aguilera tends to the newly planted and sprouting microgreens and gourds in the hydroponics unit. The FPC Gardening Club is operating in its second year. Students have been planting fall season seeds and germinating Florida-hearty plants. From adding to the collective compost and churning new soil, Gardening Club members get the full experience of planting and growing from the ground up. Scientists use models to help them visualize things that are difficult to see and understand. Our 5th graders made models of the Respiratory system, Muscular/ skeletal system, and digestive system and dissected a flower to help further their knowledge of living things.

Colts Identify Mystery Substances by Testing pH

Eighth graders in Mr. Nicks’ science class at Samuel Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies (SGAET) identify unknown compounds by testing their chemical properties. pH indicator (Anthocyanin) was made by boiling red cabbage and collecting the purple solution that was produced. This indicator changes color based on the acidity or alkalinity of the substance it is added to. Students made observations on the color change in their lab reports and attempted to identify the unknown substances based on the known pH of common household solutions.
