SLWCHS HOSA-Making Christmas Bright 2017

During the months of November and December, HOSA invited the faculty, staff, and students of SLWCHS to participate in a toy drive for the children on the caseload of Devereux Community Based Care of Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast.  These children are in protective custody due to unfortunate circumstances in their own homes.  They are often placed with foster families or relatives during this difficult time.   Eagle faculty, staff and students banded together and collected more than 175 gifts for these special children.  Members of our HOSA chapter and Allied Health classes helped load Devereux’s ‘sleigh’ last week.  Merry … Read More

We are excited to announce the new Saint Lucie West Centennial High School HOSA officers. We welcomed the new officers in an induction ceremony and also had an ice cream social with prizes! The officers from the 2013-2014 school year had to step down and “pass the torch” to the new officers for the 2014-2015 year in a candle lighting ceremony to symbolize the changes in office from former officers to the present officers. SLWCHS Experiences Collegiate Football Practices

Our St. Lucie West Centennial football team was given the opportunity to participate in college-level practices at FIU, FAU, and USF, with our senior and upcoming senior players receiving instruction from experienced college coaches. Our coaches also took away valuable lessons from the experience.  

SLWCHS ESE Students Work at PSL City Hall

These are our Eagles soaring high at Port Saint Lucie City Hall. These students sell coffee, pastries, bagels, and fruit to those in our community, every other Thursday from 8:30-10:30. These shining stars are taught job skills in order to thrive in and support our community. Great job Student Perk workers!

SLWCHS Eagle Culture Presented a Field Day to Celebrate Our Students with Great Attendance and Discipline

St. Lucie West Centennial HS Eagle Culture (PBIS) celebrated students that have had great attendance and discipline through a Field Day, where students assembled their ultimate squad, showcased their creativity, and let their competitive spirit soar.  Students gathered in teams of 6 – 10, named their teams, matched up outfits, and competed against each other in various activities!  Food trucks were available for students, and they loved enjoying tacos and chicken wings while having fun with their friends!

SLWCHS Eagle Culture (PBIS) Celebrates Students

St. Lucie West Centennial High School celebrated our students with excellent attendance and behavior with a Sadie Hawkins dance!  Students who qualified enjoyed hanging out and dancing with their friends to the DJ!  Congratulations to our Eagles who are always here at school and ready to learn!

SLWCHS Culinary Art Students Rank Highest in St. Lucie County and 3rd Overall in the State

This weekend at the Rosen Plaza in Orlando, Florida our Culinary arts students had the opportunity to compete at the 23rd annual Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, Educational Foundation, state high school competition. Centennial walked away with all of our students winning an award, a placement medal, and multiple scholarships to pursue their hospitality industry careers. Abigail Roth placed fifth in the state with one of the fastest times, ending with a stunning fruit carving representing her talent. SLWCHS Criminal Justice Students Learn About Emergency Management Systems

SLW Centennial High School Criminal Justice Students in Ms. Baumgarten’s and Ms. Oliveira’s classes had the opportunity to learn about Emergency Management Systems in St. Lucie County.  Speakers included: Frank Amandro, Assistant Director for the Public Safety Department; Billy Weinshank, Emergency Management Safety Planner; Karen Kozac, Radiological Coordinator Assistant; and Sue McNichol, Human Resource Coordinator.  Students learned about different types of emergencies and how to respond to them, emergency planning and preparedness, career opportunities in emergency management, and how criminal  justice degrees and careers fit in with emergency management.    

SLWCHS Brings Attendance Awareness to Our Eagles

Attendance is a priority for SLW Centennial and to kick off September’s Attendance Awareness Month, we involved our students every day during the first week of September!  On Tuesday we had our Aerospace teacher serve as the DJ during lunches.  Wednesday consisted of students reciting and signing their attendance pledge for the year.  Emails were sent to all students the previous weekend and students who checked their email and responded with our attendance motto of “Be Present, Be Powerful!” were able to spin the Attendance Wheel on Thursday for prizes!

SLWCHS Boys’ Soccer Coach named TCPalm’s Coach of the Year

Centennial is very proud of our Head Boys’ Soccer Coach and PE teacher, Doug Black, for being named TCPalm’s Coach of the Year! TCPalm shared, “Faced with tragedy at the beginning of the season and hit with the impending loss of a loved one toward the end, Black navigated the Eagles through severe adversity en route to their third district title in four years. Centennial recognizes our parents and students for ensuring they get to school on time!  On random Fridays, administration and staff greet our parents in the drop-off line, or students in the parking lot to welcome them to school and thank them for getting here on time!  A smile and a snack go a long way to say, “We are glad you’re here!”

SLWCHS: Around the World in 100 Minutes!

Just before Spring Break, Centennial’s Eagle Culture Committee (PBIS) celebrated diversity and our students that have excellent attendance and behavior with our very first “Around the World in 100 Minutes!” The event consisted of music, games, activities, food trucks, and booths from countries around the world.  Eligible students had an amazing time celebrating their heritage and learning more about the heritage of their fellow students and teachers!

SLWCHS AICE Students: Field Trip to the Indian River Lagoon

St. Lucie West Centennial High School students in the Cambridge AICE A-level Marine Science participated in “A Day in the Life of the Indian River Lagoon”. This was an experiential research program where students and environmental experts collaborated in the collection of water quality data and biological inventories along our local estuary.  Students actively engaged in hands-on field techniques to measure chemical, physical, and biological parameters to determine how their local piece of the estuary fits into the larger ecosystem. SLWC Criminal Justice Students Visit SLC Courthouse

On January 30th, SLWC Criminal Justice students had the unique opportunity to visit the SLC Courthouse in Fort Pierce. This educational field trip provided students with a firsthand look at the workings of the judicial system. During their visit, they engaged in an insightful Q&A session with Clerk & Comptroller Michelle Miller, Judge Jeff Hendriks, and various law enforcement staff. The students asked thoughtful questions and gained valuable insights into the roles and responsibilities of these key figures in the legal system.
