Proud moment alert! October 24th was an incredible day of college preparation at our Senior College Application Day!  Over 200 of our amazing seniors took a huge step toward their futures by: Creating their FAFSA IDs Working on college applications Getting support from dedicated counselors and staff Taking control of their college dreams! Seeing our students excited about their next chapter brings us so much joy. Special thanks to our counseling team, teachers, and staff who helped make this day a success.

SLWCHS Repeats As District Champs in Softball

SLWCHS Presented with $6,000 Check

Mrs. Sheila Cash from Garber Buick GMC presented St. Lucie West Centennial High School’s Principal Andrea Popwell with a check for over $6,000.00 during this month’s School Board Meeting.  The money raised came from Garber’s  Drive for Education campaign to support our community’s students. Community partners in education are vital to the overall success of the District.  From volunteer support to financial support, the wide array of contributions is greatly appreciated. #stlucieproud #stluciestrong

SLWCHS Performs in Music in Our Schools

On Wednesday, March 27, The Centennial High School Chorus performed in the Superintendent’s Concert for Music In Our Schools (MIOS) at Fenn Center in Fort Pierce.  SLWCHS had 8 Chorus members participate this year: Jessica Dorvil, Jimmy Haga, Amari Taylor, Colin Bappoo, Josiah Castillo, Haley Nathan, Akeliah Chisholm, and Aryanna Alberts.  Students attended rehearsal the day before, with an all-day rehearsal the day of with other students selected from their choirs at all of our St. Lucie High Schools.  Groups to perform were Elementary Music, Middle School Band and Choir, and High School Band and Choir.  

SLWCHS Parli Pro Team Places 2nd

SLWCH Parli Pro Team (11th grade) placed 2nd at the HOSA District IX Winter Leadership Conference (WLC). The purpose of the parliamentary procedure was to develop leadership skills in HOSA members by conducting a simulated business meeting. This event was based on team competition; therefore, members learned the importance of cooperation and working together through competitive performance. This event involved two rounds of competition. Round One consisted of a written test to evaluate the team’s understanding of parliamentary procedure. SLWCHS Nursing Assistant Students Hold Successful Health Fair

On March 18th, Saint Lucie West Centennial High School Nursing Assistant students held their Annual Health Fair. They had a magnificent turn out. The presenters included: Project X Fitness, the Jessica Clinton MVP Foundation, 211 Teens, Treasure Coast Hospice, Children’s Home Society of Florida, Parent Teen Community Connection, Sexual Assault Assistance Program, American Red Cross, The Inner Truth Project, Students Working Against Tobacco, Teen Choices, Protect the Heart/ CareNet, and Keiser University. On March 16th, 2016, the Nursing Assistant students at St. Lucie West Centennial High School held their annual health fair. The purpose of the Health Fair is to invite community partners who have health topics of interest to the teen population onto campus to present that information. SLWCHS Navy JROTC provides Color Guard for Northport K-8

The SLW Centennial High School Navy JROTC was proud to provide a Color Guard to open the Black History Month Celebration at Northport K-8 on February 14th.  The Color Guard Unit consisted of Cadet Chief Petty Officer Michael Parnass (Right Rifleman), Cadet Third Class Petty Officer Damien Cooper (Ensign Flagman), Cadet Lieutenant Commander Matthew Ciolino (Unit Flagman), and Cadet Third Class Petty Officer Alek Yatsushkevech (Left Rifleman).  

SLWCHS Navy JROTC Provides Color Guard Detail for Night of the Stars Event

The SLW Centennial High School’s NAVY JROTC was honored to provide the Color Guard detail for the St. Lucie School District’s Education Foundation “Night of the Stars” gala event on Saturday, February 9, 2019.  The detail was manned by Nicholas Gunnel (left rifleman), Ian Martens (Unit flagman), Julian Ortiz (Ensign flagman) and Bryson Laurent (right rifleman).

SLWCHS Navy JROTC Mentors Students

The St. Lucie West Centennial Navy JROTC unit continues its mentoring program with the Boys and Girls Club of St. Lucie West K-8 by educating their students regarding respect when performing Color Guard duties.  The students were educated in proper rifleman and flagman procedures as well as shown proper Color Guard drill commands and procedures.  The St. Lucie West Centennial Navy JROTC mentor the St. Lucie West K-8 Boys and Girls Club students every Tuesday each week.

SLWCHS NAVY JROTC Mentors at West Gate K-8

The SLW Centennial High School NAVY JROTC continues to mentor the West Gate K-8 middle school students through a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club.  This week, the Centennial Black Talon Cadets demonstrated physical training stretches and exercises and had the Boys and Girls Club children participate as well. Part of the mentoring process for the Centennial Black Talon unit is not only instilling principles of leadership, but showing the students the importance of physical fitness.  

SLWCHS moves to National HOSA Competition

Let’s congratulate our HOSA State Competitors! Ella Treadway, Genevieve Donaus, Alexia Morgan, and Kechna Fieffe competed against over 3,800 competitors from across the state of Florida. St. Lucie West Centennial High School represented St. Lucie Public Schools with two finalists. Special recognition to Genevieve Donaus, placing 4th in Nursing Assisting, and Ella Treadway for taking the 1st place position in Human Growth & Development. SLWCHS Medical Students Learn Hands-Only CPR

More than 150 Health Science 10th and 11th grade students at St. Lucie West Centennial High School learned Hands-Only CPR. These students were taught by Mary Higgins, Elizabeth Durkee, and their Certified Nursing Assistant students. Students learned how to recognize the need for CPR, how to call 911, and how to push hard and fast in the center of the chest to the beat of the classic disco song “Stayin’ Alive.” The American Heart Association’s Hands-Only CPR method at this beat can more than double a person’s chances of survival. SLWCHS Labs in Action

Students in Ms. Hesse’s biology classes conducted a lab on testing pH levels of different solutions. Students are learning about scientific investigations and the impact that micromolecules have on living organisms. In Ms. Radtke‘s AP biology class, students conducted a lab on testing the properties of water. Students needed to determine how different additives affect the hydrogen bonds between different water molecules. Students needed to create a null hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis and chart their data. Students then analyzed and discussed their findings.

SLWCHS Junior and Seniors Prepare for the Year Ahead

Last week we held our Junior and Senior class meetings! We reviewed Centennial’s expectations for graduation, attendance, and discipline. Representatives from Herff Jones were also present to provide information on class rings and all things graduation! SLWCHS HOSA Students Earn Top Fundraising Award for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

SLWCHS HOSA Chapter is thrilled to announce the results of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fundraising for the 2015-2016 school year has been posted.  LLS is the HOSA National Service Project and all HOSA chapters participate in raising funds and raising awareness each year for the chosen charity. During this year’s Student Series Programs, nearly 26,000 schools—-a quarter of all schools across the country—engaged in meaningful service, leadership and helped save lives! SLWCHS HOSA Students Attend Spring Leadership Conference

Eight lucky St. Lucie West Centennial HOSA students started their Spring break a little early attending the 2015 HOSA Spring Leadership Conference March 26-29, 2015 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. The students participated in competitions that enhance their high school education while improving self-confidence and building professionalism. There are over 55 competitions which include Medical Innovation, Biomedical Debate, Sports Medicine, Clinical Nursing, Barbara James Service Award, National Service Project, and Job Seeking Skills.  Students also volunteered their time to assist in conference headquarters, judging middle school events, and counting pennies for HOSA’s National Service Project-Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. On April 3 – 6, 2014 Saint Lucie West Centennial HOSA traveled to their State Leadership Conference at Coronado Springs Resort in Walt Disney World. Over the course of the four days, two students qualified to attend HOSA’s National Leadership Conference. Alexia Stewart placed in the recognition event for Outstanding HOSA Chapter competing against twelve other regions with hundreds of other HOSA chapters.
