Southport Middle School Proudly Presents Finding Nemo KIDS

On Friday, May 1st, Southport Middle School Drama hosted their Musical Theatre Class’ spring musical presentation of Finding Nemo KIDS. In cooperation with Port St. Lucie High School Drama, student thespians from the high school level had the opportunity to visit Southport and student-direct and choreograph our 30-minute musical production inspired by the hit Disney/Pixar movie. Southport Middle School promotes love of reading for school library month

Southport Middle School Project Earth Day

In celebration of Earth Day, Mrs. Sharon Dudash’s class spent the week on a number of environmental projects re-purposing trash into beautiful artwork and gifts. The students made various size holders for school supplies out of cans. Their display also included candle holders and pencil holders from glass and plastic. Everyone enjoyed the colorfully decorated rain sticks made from used cardboard tubes, nails and rice.  Students learned important lessons on why we should all reduce, reuse and recycle.  A special thanks goes out to Paraprofessionals Ms. Rubi Soto and Mrs. Nicole Bailey for helping to make it all possible.

Southport Middle School Project Citizen

In the 9th annual Project Citizen District Showcase, Southport Middle School students Johnathan Almeida, Abigail Ward, and Makenzie Fairchild presented their project entitled “The Overuse of Plastics in St. Lucie County” which created public policy on reducing plastic usage. The students worked hard for weeks after school to create and implement an action plan.  For their presentation, they explained how they would carry out their plan. Project Citizen is a county-wide initiative that helps to deepen students’ understanding of their Civics content. It teaches seventh grade students about legislation and promotes responsible participation in local and state government.

Southport Middle School Production of Alice in Wonderland, Jr.

Southport Middle School proudly hosted our annual Spring musical, Alice in Wonderland, Jr., from February 26 to February 28. Families, friends, and faculty enjoyed a trip down the rabbit hole where we got to meet the Cheshire Cat, the Caterpillar, the Queen of Hearts, and a myriad of other unique and eccentric characters. Southport Middle School Presents Beauty and the Beast Jr.

The Performing Arts Department of Southport Middle School presented the Broadway Junior musical, Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast, Jr.” in four fantastic shows. This “tale as old as time” was filled with spectacular costumes, beautiful artwork, props, familiar songs, and dance. The cast and crew of over 75 students rehearsed for weeks to prepare. Southport Middle School Practices Safe Social Distancing

Southport Middle School Media Center is making good use of the generous donation of personal protection items from United Way of St. Lucie County. Our school recently received over 200 canisters of Lysol Wipes, as well as signage for social distancing and hand washing for participating in their Tools for Schools program. Our staff and students send their thanks for these essential supplies.

Southport Middle School Physical Education students participate in boot camp and cross fit training

Southport Middle School students develop skills necessary to measure their own fitness and physical activity during PE class. As students maintain regular participation in physical activity, they analyze and evaluate their level of involvement in physical activity. Our coaches prepare and motivate students to engage in physical activity outside of school and throughout life. They also provide opportunities for students to develop healthy habits while gaining an appreciation for its importance throughout life. Southport Middle School students have numerous before and after-school clubs to choose from. The PEARLS Club, Positive Enthusiastic Awesome Regal Ladies Society, is just one club that Southport teachers have been sponsoring for our girls to take part in. The PEARLS focus is for the girls to be part of a united group and become a positive influence in our community. They meet once a week and sponsor a number of activities. Southport Middle School (SPMS) recently buzzed with an incredible surge of school spirit as it celebrated a multi-faceted Homecoming week. This wasn’t just your average celebration; the school integrated Literacy Week and various Student Council initiatives into the festivities, ensuring that academic engagement and school pride went hand-in-hand. Southport Middle School PBIS Event Staff Vs. Student Volleyball Game

Southport Middle School celebrated students who did not receive any referrals for the month of August with an exciting Staff vs. Student Volleyball Game! These students enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon cheering for their peers, purchasing snacks and drinks, and watching an intense matchup. The teachers came out strong, with a commanding lead, but the Girls Volleyball Team showed resilience, battling back to claim victory in both games! Southport Middle School Participated in the 8th-Grade Experience

Several 8th-grade students from Southport Middle School recently participated in the “8th-Grade Experience” at the St. Lucie Public Schools District Office, an event designed to introduce students to real-world career opportunities.  SPMS was proud to participate in this Classrooms2Careers initiative. During this interactive program, students engaged with professionals from a wide range of industries, including finance, construction, boating, healthcare, and law enforcement. Southport Middle School National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony

Southport Middle School parents and family members gathered with students to celebrate the formal induction to National Junior Honor Society. Inductees received their membership certificate, card and pin, and recited the membership pledge, led by the current chapter President Nikolas Brooksbank and Vice President Annery Abreu. Southport Middle School Multicultural Celebration

For the past 20 years, Southport Middle School has proudly celebrated the kinship and diversity among the school’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students in Mr. Dana S. Hochberg’s class. This year over 40 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade ESOL students participated in the multicultural event and represented over 15 countries. In addition to a delectable multinational feast, students presented individual research-based learning projects involving authentic naval air and vessel hats.  Seventh grader Thekeyah Antiola chose the USS Shenandoah AD-44. Southport Middle School media center keeps up with the times

Southport Middle School received funds for the first wave of books to update the Media Center with new and high interest information for students.  Corrine Earley and her husband Jim of Earley Learning Systems Inc. spent some time at Southport helping to shelve about 20 boxes full of new books.
