Southport Middle School students develop skills necessary to measure their own fitness and physical activity during PE class. As students maintain regular participation in physical activity, they analyze and evaluate their level of involvement in physical activity.
Our coaches prepare and motivate students to engage in physical activity outside of school and throughout life. They also provide opportunities for students to develop healthy habits while gaining an appreciation for its importance throughout life. Students concentrate on 5 basic components of physical fitness:
- Cardiovascular endurance
- Muscular strength
- Muscular endurance
- Body composition
- Flexibility
Coaches emphasize the short term and long term benefits:
- Enhanced appearance
- Improved immune system
- Self confidence
- Strong bones
Overall this program helps students to achieve a higher level of fitness in a unique non-competitive or competitive environment. It has been proven very successful as Southport Middle School!
