Southport Middle School Media Center Fall Fundraiser Was Enchanting

This year’s book fair was a huge success thanks to all the amazing parents, students, teachers and staff who supported the media center for the annual library fundraiser. In cooperation with student-led conferences, we had a wonderful turnout of parents who joined us. Southport Middle School makes language learning fun and exciting for students and their families

Parents and students in the After School Language Learning Lab are delighted to spend their time in the Media Center learning English, Spanish, and French using the Rosetta Stone computer program. What began as a Title III program specifically for English language learners has caught on with other students who are now learning Spanish and French. Southport Middle School Literacy Pow Wow

Southport Middle School had a wonderful turn out for their very first Literacy Pow Wow Night. Over 100 students, parents, faculty, and staff enjoyed the Hitchiti dancers who put on an amazing show, giving everyone a glimpse of their authentic Native American culture. It was a great night for singing, dancing, eating Native American food and making crafts around the bonfire.

Southport Middle School Keeping Port St. Lucie Beautiful

We are excited to announce Southport Middle School’s Adopt-A-Street Club!  The club that makes a difference in the community, one piece of trash at a time. The club meets once a month to clean up litter along the streets directly outside of the school and the City of Port St. Lucie has rewarded our efforts by placing signage on Morningside Boulevard. We are beaming with pride by the tremendous outpour of student participation in keeping Port St. Lucie beautiful. We are excited to announce the return of Southport Middle School’s Adopt-A-Street club, the club that makes a difference in the community with one piece of trash at a time! The club members from Ms. Mas and Ms. Ayala’s classes will meet once a month for their service project and clean up assigned streets directly outside of our school. Southport Middle School Hosts the Hunger Games

Principal “Effie” Nicole Telese officiated Southport Middle School’s first annual Hunger Games Math Competition and Pep Rally. Tributes from 12 districts competed to be the first to solve and answer word problems that were displayed for the packed gymnasium. Each tribute was chosen to represent their district after the course of a week of classroom competition and rigorous math review activities. Students, one girl and one boy, from every sixth, seventh, and eighth grade math class who earned the most points throughout the week, were chosen as the tribute to represent their district. Southport Middle School Hosts Literacy Night

SPMS hosted an engaging Literacy & History Night this past week, bringing together students, families, staff, and community partners for an evening centered around literacy. Students enjoyed a variety of reading activities designed to spark curiosity and strengthen literacy skills, all while sharing pizza and spending time together. Family, friends, former students, and colleagues through the years, gathered to honor Mr. Jim LeBon and celebrate his 40 years of service as a band director at his annual Spring Band Concert. The evening began with a surprise reception with family, friends, and colleagues as well as performances in the courtyard by Port St. Lucie High School and Treasure Coast High School bands, where many of his former band students are now in attendance. Southport Middle School holds science expo

Southport Middle School recently held its annual Science Expo in the school’s media center.  Over 80 student projects were on display with 10 being chosen to represent Southport at the istrict level science fair February 7, 2012.  The event was attended by School Board vice chairman Debbie Hawley, District Science K-12 Curriculum Specialist Steven Shotola, as well many students and faculty members.  Pictured is eighth grade student Kaylee Tolliver with her project titled, “Which brand of toothpaste makes a Kool-Aid stained marble appear whiter?” along with science teacher Kelly Lunt.

Southport Middle School Holds Literacy and History Night

Southport Middle School celebrated a successful Literacy and History night on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025. The event had approximately 200 students and families in attendance. Our Language Arts and Reading teachers had various literacy stations, filled with activities for students to showcase their literacy skills in a fun and engaging way. In a recent press release from Girls on the Run of the Treasure Coast, “Southport Middle School made history with eleven brave and beautiful girls who met for their first session of Girls on Track in St. Lucie County. The Girls on Track program, for girls in 6th through 8th grade, uses an experience-based curriculum which integrates running to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident. Southport’s Heart & Sole team had a fabulous time as they completed their 2018 Girls on the Run 5K this past weekend. After completing a 10-week course, you could see the sense of accomplishment as the girls made it through to the finish line alongside their running buddy. Heart & Sole is a transformational physical activity based program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. “The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. Southport Middle School Heart & Sole team had an exciting day when they joined the remaining girls in the Treasure Coast branch for their Fall 5K Celebration Run. This culminating event followed weeks of practice and life lessons. The girls distributed handmade musical notes, based on their practice 5K run theme, Let the Music Move You. Southport Middle School has been blessed with several organizations to support our Southport Grace Pack families with a Thanksgiving box each year. A special thanks to the Port St. Lucie Ballantrae community, Holy Family Catholic Church’s Council of Catholic Women, a VERY generous parent, and various Southport staff members who provided monetary donations and food items to support our Grace Packs program. Southport Middle School hosted its Read to Succeed Fundraiser at Big Apple Pizza on November 12, and it was a huge success! Families came together to enjoy delicious pizza while supporting SPMS. For every order 50% of proceeds went directly toward school supplies. Students who attended received a free book and a raffle ticket for a chance to pie our Admin and SRD during a live morning show! Thanks to all the efforts put into the event by the parent task force, the Southport Middle School Science Curriculum night was a huge success.  The South Florida Science Museum was one of the community participants that evening.
