Congratulations to LPA senior, Sebastian Suarez, for earning Congress’ only charity, the Congressional Award.  Sebastian completed over 400 hours of voluntary public service, 200 hours of personal development and 200 hours of physical fitness over a 24-month period, to include a 5-day, self-planned trip to New York City, where he explored the various cultures that helped shape the formation of the city, to garner this prestigious award and meet his personal goals. The first morning of school was flawless and welcoming as community members, parents, grandparents, teachers and administrators welcomed students to a super successful new year at Northport K-8 School. The support the exceptional Title 1 school received was undeniable. SLPS Superintendent E. Wayne Gent was on hand as well as SLPS Chief Communications Officer Kerry Padrick. Summer band rehearsals are vital to a productive marching band season. Fort Pierce Westwood High School is in tune with all high schools in St. Lucie Public Schools as they prepare before the start of school.

Student musicians in St. Lucie Public Schools returned early to begin practicing and refining their craft in preparation for musical performances for audiences throughout the District this fall. Port St. Lucie High School’s Jaguar Band found a beautiful day to harmonize with Mother Nature and rehearse on the field under beautiful blue skies.          

Fort Pierce Central’s Cobra Pride makes its way onto the set as students rehearse prior to the start of school.                     Cobra drummers and percussionists rehearse for game day.  

Rain or shine, indoor practice or outdoor practice, student musicians will meet the challenges to rehearse, because…the show must go on!    

SLWCHS students, under the direction of Mr. Brian Hoce, work to perfect their performance in preparation for the upcoming marching band season. St. Lucie Public Schools supports The Arts In Education.  

With the beginning of school just around the corner, students and band directors are tuning up for the season! Rehearsals are underway as students prepare to perform the musical selections fans will hear and appreciate in stadiums across the District. Treasure Coast Titans, under the direction of Luke Hall, began meeting this week.  

In true prize patrol fashion, Principal Michelle Herrington and her team from St. Lucie Elementary visited homes of students to celebrate their accomplishments and extend congratulations for achieving the highest score (5) on the Florida Standards Assessment! The team left balloons, signs, and high expectations for another positive year at each home they visited.            

Frances K. Sweet 5th grade students were guided in a positive direction by rising senior Haniya Shareef of Lincoln Park Academy.  She conducted a motivational and career-oriented seminar for students by facilitating discussions about their potential career paths, presumed weaknesses, and identified strengths. Students were encouraged to recognize their weaknesses but refuse to accept them. Additionally, they were encouraged to emphasize and develop their strengths in order to utilize them as they explore and develop their potential career path. The nationally known cardiologist, Dr. Tiffany Sizemore-Ruiz, Class of 2003, returned to Lincoln Park Academy to dispense nuggets of wisdom to the eighth-grade graduates of 2017.  She delivered the message that all lessons learned in eighth grade were relevant as she shared anecdotes of the hard-tack lesson from Mr. David Perry’s eighth-grade history class, as well as algebraic strategies taught to her by Ms. Chinn. Restoring the Village Youth Symposium – FREE for K – 12 Students June 9 – Lincoln Park Academy from 9 AM – 2:30 PM Registration is from 9AM  – 10AM in the Lincoln Park Auditorium Students will learn about leadership, overcoming odds, conflict resolution, and innovative technology during informative and exciting breakout sessions. For the past 20 years, Southport Middle School has proudly celebrated the kinship and diversity among the school’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students in Mr. Dana S. Hochberg’s class. This year over 40 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade ESOL students participated in the multicultural event and represented over 15 countries. In addition to a delectable multinational feast, students presented individual research-based learning projects involving authentic naval air and vessel hats.  Seventh grader Thekeyah Antiola chose the USS Shenandoah AD-44. Transportation employees (L to R) Michele Cocchia, Debbie Soesbe, and Kathy Owens donned their red noses for the annual Red Nose Day, May 25, 2017, supporting the efforts to aid childhood  poverty programs including support for immunizations, mental health, domestic violence, education, as well as fighting homelessness and disease in the poorest communities.

On Monday, May 22, 2017 at Palm Pointe Educational Research School in Tradition, Holocaust survivor Bernie Shore shared his story of survival with over 150 sixth grade scholars.  With Superintendent E. Wayne Gent and School Board Member Debbie Hawley in attendance, Mr. Shore spoke of his experience at Auschwitz and the tragic story of his family’s oppression at the hands of the Nazi’s.  Over 60 of Bernie’s extended family perished during World War II.
