On Friday, January 18, 2019, Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion’s Army JROTC Drill Team attended the Santaluces Community High School Army JROTC drill meet in Lantana, FL. Cadets competed in male and female squads and color guard. Mrs. Durkee and Mrs. Higgins’ Allied Health classes and HOSA-Future Health Professional members partnered up with Communities Connected for Kids for their annual Making Christmas Bright project. CCK oversees child-welfare services in Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast, and Guardians for New Futures, which helps meet the unfunded needs of children in foster care. The project has served thousands of children in Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties. On Friday January 11, 2019, the Culinary Department at St. Lucie West Centennial High School hosted StratherDuPree II, the Director of Articulation and Partnerships at Indian River State College, and Rachel Rosiak, an IRSC Recruitment Specialist. Mr. DuPree and Ms. Rosiak received an overview of the program from the teacher, Christina Gedke-Balaschak, and interacted with students as they prepared to make five different soups. 

Child Nutrition Services make homemade dill pickles and a healthy seven layer dip for students at CAST! YUM!

On Thursday, January 17, students in the Law Academy at SLW Centennial High School learned about K9 Patrols and how K9s are used in law enforcement. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office shared information on how the dogs are trained, handled, and used in law enforcement.

As part of their Flight and Space curriculum, 8th grade Northstars students in Mr. Fess’ STEM class designed a flight obstacle course. Throughout the day, other students had the opportunity to fly through the course and try for the fastest time.

Congratulations to Sam Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies!  Coach Crenshaw and the Lady Colts basketball team bounded into first place at the MLK Basketball Tournament!

The Fort Pierce Westwood’s Class of 2019 senior pinning ceremony was a tremendous success! Alumni Ian Osking inspired students with his keynote address.  Once a panther, always a panther! Congratulations seniors!

We are so PROUD of our Northport health aide, Sonja Simmons. Sonja has been named SLPS Health Aide of the Month. Sonja always has a friendly and welcoming smile for everyone. She is kind and patient with the children and is a great team player. Sonja is a terrific asset to our Northport family and she is loved by everyone!

Sophomore Christen McCann broke the career three-point record made with number 151 in January.  Congratulations to Christian from her Coaches, teammates and LPA family!

A wonderful program was recently held in the Northport Media Center! The entire fourth grade came together with their teachers to learn about the autoimmune disease, Alopecia. Jeffery Woytovich, a representative from the “Children’s Alopecia Project,” came to raise awareness about alopecia. Students and teachers learned that there are three types of alopecia, or hair loss, Alopecia Areata, which is patchy hair loss, Alopecia Totalis which is majority or total loss of hair above the neck, and Alopecia Universalis which is total body hair loss. PORT St. LUCIE, FL – Cierra Yuhas, a sophomore at Port St Lucie High School will be a Delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Lowell, MA on June 23-25, 2019. The Congress is an honors-only program for high school students who want to become physicians or go into medical research fields. The students in Mrs. Harris’ first grade class at Village Green Environmental School participated in the Florida Council on Economic Education’s Fall 2018 Poster Contest. The students all drew pictures describing various economic terms such as entrepreneur, trade, goods and services, producers and consumers, etc. Students from all over the State participate in this contest (K-12) throughout the year. Shirly Ferrer and Evelina Silverberg both won!  Congratulations.

On December 19th, Coach Wendell Adams was honored for winning his 400th girls basketball game. Coach Adams is in his 20th season, and in February 2018 he became the girls basketball all-time wins leader on the Treasure Coast. Lincoln Park Academy, for the first time ever, has a wrestling program. On December 22, the Greyhounds took 1st place at the Battle on the Lake tournament hosted by Okeechobee High School. Two LPA wrestlers at the tournament were Rakan and Rayan Abulathou. The brother duo pinned every wrestler they faced. Congratulations to Coach Pryor and all of our Greyhound wrestlers.

On December 12th, Leroyeisha Thomas joined an elite group of athletes by scoring over 1,000 points during her Greyhound career.  Pictured with Leroyeisha is Coach Wendell Adams.  Congratulations to Leroyeisha!

On Saturday, December 15, 12 cadets from Treasure Coast High School AFJROTC volunteered to help Wreaths Across America at Rolling Oaks Cemetery, 2200 SW Del Rio Blvd. Port St. Lucie. There, they remembered and honored our fallen veterans through the laying of Remembrance Wreaths on the graves of our country’s veteran heroes. From the Revolutionary War to present day conflicts, our veterans are devoted sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers.
