Do you want to help your child learn to love reading and build a FREE collection of books at home? Through a new at-home literacy and book delivery program called the New Worlds Reading Initiative, your child may qualify to receive a free book by mail each month, along with supporting materials for families to use together. All students must return their district issued laptop to their assigned school starting May 24 through June 1. Please be sure to bring the power card when returning the laptop.

March is “Arts in Our Schools Month”, an annual celebration that showcases the accomplishments of students in dance, music, theater, and the visual arts nationwide. St. Lucie Public School students showcased their own artistic accomplishments by displaying their artworks in the SLPS District Office! SLPS staff was treated to a wide range of different artistic mediums submitted from various elementary, middle, and high schools in the district. Thank you to all schools and students for their wonderful work!

SLPS was on display at the St. Lucie County Fair! Schools created their own exhibits with the theme of “Dream Makers: Arts, Academics & Athletics”, which were then judged. Congratulations to all the winners! Thank you to all schools who participated, the St. Lucie County Fair, and sponsors!  

In a blended broadcast on Saturday, February 5th, St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) and the Education Foundation of St. Lucie County announced this year’s line-up of educational superstars. John Renschler took top honors as St. Lucie Public School’s Teacher of the Year. He is a first-grade teacher at Samuel S. Gaines Academy. In partnership with Scholastic Education, SLPS is rolling out classroom libraries in all K-5 classrooms across the district. Each classroom library has a collection of over 250 books to engage students in fiction and non-fiction literature. For two new teachers at Windmill Point Elementary, Scholastic Education launched the Classroom Library Makeover Contest by making over these teachers’ classroom libraries. Each teacher is eligible to enter the makeover contest for a chance to win an additional 150 books for their classroom library and to gift 150 books to another teacher on their campus.
