Congratulations to the Class of 2023! Last week, Superintendent Dr. Jon R. Prince, joined by Board Chairman Troy Ingersoll, Board Vice Chairman Debbie Hawley, Board Member Jack Kelly, Board Member Jennifer Richardson, Board Member Dr. Donna Mills, and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Helen Wild celebrated the graduating classes of 2023 at Lawnwood Stadium this year with over 3,000 students walking across the stage to receive their diplomas. Graduation is the culminating event that celebrates and recognizes the achievement of each graduate. SLW Centennial HS NAVY JROTC Awards Night and Change of Command

The SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC “Black Talon” Company held its Annual End of the Year Awards Night Ceremony on Friday, May 5th, 2023 in the school’s auditorium. Prior to the cadets receiving their awards two parents were presented with Appreciation Award Plaques for their support of the Black Talon Unit throughout the school year.  They were Mrs. Suzie Scott and Mr. Lance Rossell.   The Awards Night is when the unit recognizes the stellar performances of outstanding Cadets. St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit Highlighted at St. Lucie West Centennial High School, Criminal Justice & Law Academy Students

St. Lucie West Centennial High School students from Mrs. Baumgarten and Mr. Nichol’s classes were introduced to a few local heroes.  The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit came out to meet and speak with students about working in law enforcement.  Students were well engaged and enjoyed observing the demonstrations provided by the unit.  Thank you to Deputy Randy Hunter, Deputy Steve Wise, and Sergeant Ben Deblieck; and the Career & Technical Educators for organizing this event for students in Criminal Justice/ Law Academy at St. Lucie West Centennial High School.

Project Citizen Awardees

The 7th grade students at Manatee Academy are advancing on to the Project Citizen State competition after earning 1st place for their project, “Center of Attention”.  The students conducted thorough research and interviewed both professionals and city officials alike to establish an action plan that would encourage the production of more venues and family-oriented events at the Civic Center and throughout St. Lucie County. Recently, the students presented the plan before City Council with high hopes of their support. Best wishes to Mr. Young and his students as they move on to states!

St. Lucie Public Schools’ Angela Patton Named as Florida’s 2023 Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year

Career & Technical Education Entrepreneurship Showcase

Students from St. Lucie Public Schools’ (SLPS) Career & Technical Education programs showcased their business ideas during the Entrepreneurship Showcase held at the district office.  During this event, students presented their entrepreneurship business plans, food truck business concepts, and more to our panel of judges.  This event is a direct connection to the grant awarded to SLPS’ Career & Technical Education (CTE) department.  The CTE team applied for a grant from the Florida Department of Education and was awarded funds to support CTE teachers and students in the classroom to promote entrepreneurship.  Students are now connected with industry partners, Junior … Read More

2023 Career Connect Conference

The 2023 Career Connect Conference was a success with 295 St. Lucie Public School students registered for this event.  This conference included high schools from all over the Treasure Coast.  The Career Connect Conference was an event offering exposure to young adults preparing to enter the workforce or post-secondary educational institutions.  The goal was to create awareness and spark students’ interests through hands-on, interactive, and engaging sessions.  The industry sectors included entrepreneurship, hospitality, healthcare, construction & skilled trade, technology, and manufacturing.

Makeda Brome Named Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year by the Florida Assistant Principals Association

The Florida Assistant Principals Association announced last Friday, March 31st, 2023, that Makeda Brome, Assistant Principal from Chester A. Moore Elementary School has been named the 2022-2023 Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year representing Florida.  She is one of 26 Assistant Principals from across the country to receive this prestigious recognition. SLPS IT Earns Cybersecurity Service Technician Certificates

SLPS IT employees Antonio Vargas and Nile Gentry have both earned their certificate of completion for their apprenticeship training. The pair earned their Cybersecurity Service Technician certificates while working in one of the largest IT facilities at the St. Lucie Public Schools administration facility. SLPS Students Race to Greatness at the St. Lucie County Fair

SLPS was on display at the St. Lucie County Fair! Schools created their own exhibits with the theme of “Race to Greatness”. The exhibits were judged and cash prizes will be awarded to the winning schools. Congratulations to all! Fort Pierce Central’s Allied Health HOSA Chapter Visits Assisted Living Facility for Valentine’s Day Celebration, CTE Month

Fort Pierce Central’s Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) chapter celebrated Career & Technical Education (CTE) month and shared joy and smiles on Valentine’s day.  HOSA members along with their chapter advisor, Mrs. Lorraine Young, did a presentation and gave each resident flowers and gifts.  Thank you to our business partner, Lake Forest Park Assisted Living Facility, for their collaboration to make this event happen. Middle School Students STEM and Career & Technical Education- Energy & the Environment with Mr. Fess (Northport K8)

Sixth grade students in Mr. Fess’ STEM class created working wind-turbines out of old toy motors as part of their “Energy & the Environment” curriculum.  All students designed, created, tested, and improved their own creations. Students rated their electricity production using a multimeter and made changes to their builds to improve their efficiency. Cybersecurity Program Highlighted at Florida Career Pathways Network Symposium

The Career & Technical Education Department attended and presented at the Florida Career Pathways Network Symposium.  The presentation was focused on the Cybersecurity program at Lincoln Park Academy with Mr. Alan Mathison.  Mr. Mathison presented details on the Cybersecurity grant and technological advances newly implemented at Lincoln Park Academy for middle to high school students enrolled in the program.
