At Southport Middle School, students enrolled in seventh grade accelerated math prepared for their first district test by participating in a fun and engaging review game held in the Media Center. SPMS Hosts Their First PBIS Event of the Year

Southport Middle School held its first PBIS event on Friday to reward students with no referrals for the past few weeks. Eligible students were able to choose from a variety of fun activities, including board games, arts and crafts, a movie room, gym free time, outdoor play, and tech games. Students at Southport Middle School gained essential life-saving skills by learning how to perform CPR. Incoming sixth graders had an exciting and engaging morning at Southport Middle School during their transition camp. Southport’s Athletic Department was created to promote academics through sports and school involvement. Future Leaders Unite: SPMS and PSLHS Student Councils/Governments Connect for an Afternoon of Leadership & Teamwork.  8th-grade Student Council students at Southport Middle School were introduced to the Port Saint Lucie High School Student Government.  This gave students a chance to get to know more about the program before joining in the fall. School Bus Driver Appreciation Day is observed annually on the fourth Tuesday of April.  This year it was Tuesday, April 22nd! Southport Middle School bus drivers were welcomed with wholesome breakfast treats and a beverage when dropping the students off in the morning. Southport Presents The Aristocats Kids

Southport Middle School Drama was proud to present Disney’s The Aristocats Kids this past Thursday, April 24th. Working cooperatively with Port St. Lucie High School Drama, alumni returned to Southport to student direct this classic Disney musical, which was met with overwhelming praise and joy by an audience of students, families, and friends. The arts are the traditions and events that bind a community together, and we are grateful for the massive support that we felt from our wonderful audience. Southport Middle School Holds Literacy and History Night

Southport Middle School celebrated a successful Literacy and History night on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025. The event had approximately 200 students and families in attendance. Our Language Arts and Reading teachers had various literacy stations, filled with activities for students to showcase their literacy skills in a fun and engaging way. We are excited to announce the return of Southport Middle School’s Adopt-A-Street club, the club that makes a difference in the community with one piece of trash at a time! Southport Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr.

Southport Middle School teachers, staff, and students came together to commemorate Martin Luther King’s legacy.  Southport band students, led by Mr. Brandon Pasquence, played a variety of songs. Our cheerleading squad, led by Ms. Jennifer Filippini, performed numerous cheers.  Ivan the Ibis, Southport’s mascot, was represented by 8th grader and student council president, Michael Nevin-Demmons.  Coach Zoerhof, along with several student athletes were also in attendance. Southport Middle SRD Helps Out in the Weight Room

At Southport Middle School, Physical Education classes host an array of sports. Southport students have the opportunity to learn how to improve their health in a variety of ways.  During third quarter our physical education coaches are focused on flag football, whiffle ball, and handball.  Twice a week, our coaches switch things up by also offering weight training, capture the flag, and a variety of outdoor sports. Southport Middle Celebrates PM2 Growth

At Southport Middle School, students celebrated their PM2 growth with yummy treats!  Students were rewarded for making growth in one subject (reading or math) with chips and Takis.  However, students who made growth in both subjects (reading and math) were rewarded with chips/Takis as well as a Nacho Bar.  The Nacho Bar consisted of chips, meat, cheese, sour cream, salsa, and jalapenos.   Students enjoyed creating their own nachos. Rock Cycle Fun at Southport Middle School

To deepen their understanding of the rock cycle, Mr. Johnson’s science classes participated in rock cycle stations. The five stations consisted of a Crayon Rock Cycle Lab, Rock Cycle WebQuest, Rock Cycle Nearpod, Rock Cycle Comic, and a Rock Cycle Story. During the lab station students used a crayon to depict the stages of the rock cycle. Students got to press down on the shaved crayon pieces mimicking the pressure that it would experience on earth.
