Lawnwood Leopards are celebrating Black History Month while creating lifelong memories through community engagement. Mrs. Collins’ fourth-grade students are always eager to learn about community leaders.  In honor of Black History Month, Mrs. Collins invited Fort Pierce City Commissioner Curtis Johnson Jr. to visit her class. This provided students with a unique opportunity to practice their communication skills by interviewing him. In honor of national parent involvement month, a parent conference night was held at Lawnwood Elementary School.  Teachers, students, and parents met to analyze progress monitoring data, review academic goals, and discuss strategies for improvement.  Parents also learned how to use Skyward to track their students’ academic growth, attendance, and behavior.  It was another awesome parent involvement event.  GO LEOPARDS!    

All K-5 students voted to select the 2024-2025 student council officers of Lawnwood Elementary School. Congratulations to our 2024-2025 Student Council Officers. President – Jared Burns Vice President – Laila Boykin Secretary – Stanley Battle Treasurer – Christopher Scales GO LEOPARDS!  

Lawnwood Elementary students enjoyed the Eco Guardians Performance.  With the help of Nikki Neutron, a superhero for the energy-saving Eco Guardians, Grades K-5 students learned about energy efficiency.  In summary, students learned about the importance of energy conservation and ways they can help save energy.  GO LEOPARDS!

Every VPK – Grade 4 class selected a Hispanic Country.  Students were engaged as they learned about Hispanic cultures, foods, traditions, and music.  The teachers and students created a display board to showcase what they learned about their country.  A special thank you goes out to Laurie Boyer, D’Jion Jackson, Shemair Dorelus, Kim Jay, Jodie Certosimo, and Michael McCarthy for coming out to view the displays and select the winning classes. Overall, it was a great opportunity for students to work collaboratively and learn about Hispanic Countries.  GO LEOPARDS!      

All LWN families were invited to attend our Annual Hispanic Heritage Family Night.  Together we learned about the contributions of influential Hispanic Americans like Roberto Clemente, Sonia Sotomayor, and Cesar Chavez.  A delicious taco dinner was provided as we celebrated Hispanic/Latin music and culture. It was another awesome LWN family night!  GO LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood Leopards are learning about growth mindset.  K-5 students attended the NED Show which focuses on character education.  The NED acronym stands for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best.  Here at Lawnwood Elementary School we will use the NED approach as we continue to promote a culture of kindness and excellence throughout our campus.  GO LEOPARDS!  

Lawnwood students enjoyed the Talk Like a Pirate PBiS/STEM Event.  Students participated in a sink or float activity to test the density of different objects by putting them in water. This was a great way to learn about weight and buoyancy.  The students made their predictions and used a graphic organizer to record the results.  Go LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood Elementary Staff Members are TREASURE HUNTERS! The faculty and staff members of Lawnwood Elementary participated in a Kids At Hope professional learning opportunity.  Mr. Kevin Singletary, Kids At Hope Training Coordinator & Treasure Hunter, provided a training for the treasure hunters of Lawnwood Elementary.  We believe all children are capable of success, No EXCEPTIONS!  

Mrs. Collins’s fifth-grade students are learning about Hispanic Leaders.  Recently, they completed a class project about Jeanette Nunez, Florida’s first Hispanic female Lieutenant Governor. Students learned about Nunez’s career and the contributions that she has made to help all Floridians.  Lawnwood students are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month!  GO LEOPARDS!

K-5 Lawnwood teachers provide daily read-aloud time.  Read-aloud time is a top priority at Lawnwood Elementary School because it enhances students’ vocabulary skills, improves comprehension, and fluency skills.  Our second-grade students are enjoying the Geronimo Stilton Series and the Junie B. Jones Collection.  Keep on reading!  GO LEOPARDS!

August 19th was National Aviation Day and the students of Lawnwood Elementary made paper airplanes.  The Resource Team led this PBiS event and students enjoyed learning about aerodynamics.  Students explored vocabulary terms like aviation, aviator, force, gravity, thrust, runway, and so much more.  Teachers supported students as they changed the design of the airplane to see how it affected the flight and speed of the plane.  Overall, it was a fun, engaging PBiS Science Event.  Go Leopards!

Lawnwood Leopards are WINNING! The students of Lawnwood Elementary participated in the Kids at Hope/ Tunnel of Hope Activity.  A special thank you goes out to all of the community members and leaders for making this event a success.  We believe all children are capable of success, no exceptions!  GO LEOPARDS!

DJ Corey visited Lawnwood Elementary School and encouraged students to always strive for excellence. This special music performance motivated students to make good choices and put forth good effort.  Students enjoyed dancing to DJ Corey’s hit song “Pass The Test”.   It was another amazing day at Lawnwood Elementary School.  GO LEOPARDS!

Come to School!  Arrive on Time!  Stay all Day! Attendance Matters at Lawnwood Elementary School.  The K-5 students who met the schoolwide attendance goal of 92% or higher were invited to attend a BMX Show.  The students enjoyed watching this dynamic duo as they performed bunny hops, track stands, wheelies, 180 Turns, and so much more!  It was another fun day at Lawnwood Elementary School.  GO LEOPARDS!

All grade 3-5 parents were invited to attend a Parent Night.  Administration, Instructional Coaches, School Counselors, and Teachers facilitated the event.  Parents were provided a copy of their child’s Progress Monitoring ELA and Math Score Report and they learned how they can help their student master grade-level content skills.  A video was shown to help parents understand computer adaptive testing and parents were provided time to ask questions and discuss concerns.  A special thank you goes out to all Lawnwood Parents for attending this informative session and for all that they do to support our school.  GO LEOPARDS!  

Lawnwood Leopards are recognized for their citizenship every month during our K-5 Leopard of the Month Assembly.  These students were selected by their classroom teacher because they consistently demonstrate P.A.W.S. Behavior.   CONGRATULATIONS! P – Pride A – Accountability W – We are Respectful S – Stay Safe GO LEOPARDS!  

Lawnwood’s third annual flapjack fundraiser was a BIG HIT! The families of Lawnwood Elementary School were served breakfast by the LWN staff members.  A special thank you goes out to the staff of Applebees/Fort Pierce for being a local business partner. We also appreciate the LWN staff, parents, and students for making this a fun, memorable event.  Go LEOPARDS!
