All Grades 3-5 Parents were invited to attend a Parent Night. Administration, Instructional Coaches, School Counselors, and Teachers facilitated the event. Parents were provided a copy of their child’s Progress Monitoring ELA and Math Score Report and they learned how they can help their student master grade-level content skills. A video was shown to help parents understand computer adaptive testing and parents were provided time to ask questions and discuss concerns. Lawnwood’s third annual flapjack fundraiser was a BIG HIT! The families of Lawnwood Elementary School were served breakfast by the LWN staff members. A special thank you goes out to the staff of Applebees/Fort Pierce for being a local business partner. We also appreciate the LWN staff, parents, and students for making this a fun, memorable event. K-5 Students enjoyed Field Day Activities. Field day is the perfect opportunity for students to use the skills they have learned during physical education. Students enjoyed the friendly competition as they were encouraged to put forth their best effort and work as a team. Attendance Matters at Lawnwood Elementary School. K-5 students who met the Jan/Feb Attendance Goal of 92% were eligible to attend a MAGIC SHOW! The magician was amazing, and it was another GREAT day at Lawnwood. Students are strongly encouraged and rewarded for coming to school, arriving on time, and remaining in school for the entire school day. GO LEOPARDS!
Mrs. Collins’ 4th-grade class at Lawnwood Elementary recently completed a timeline and test questions project. After studying nonfiction texts with timelines, they explored another text without a timeline. Students constructed a timeline solely from the information provided in the text. Then, they created three test questions and answers to deepen their learning. It was an enjoyable learning experience. GO LEOPARDS!
All K-5 Lawnwood classes completed a group project. Students learned about influential African American Entertainers, Athletes, Scientists, Inventors, Entrepreneurs, Government Leaders, and Writers. Display boards were developed to highlight the accomplishments, awards, and contributions made by these great leaders. Projects featured Langston Hughes, Ruby Bridges, Patricia Bath, Madame CJ Walker, Garrett Morgan, Kyrie Irving, and many more historical figures. Lawnwood Leopards are celebrating Black History Month. Ms. Frazier’s VPK students read books and completed art projects in honor of Mae Jemison. Mae Jemison is an American engineer, physician, and former NASA astronaut. She became the first African American woman to travel into space when she served as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 1992. Jemison joined NASA’s astronaut corps in 1987 and was selected to serve for the STS-47 mission, during which the Endeavour orbited the Earth for nearly eight days on September 12–20, 1992.
Ms. White’s students are learning about the major common characteristics of all planets, and they are comparing/contrasting the properties of the inner and outer planets. The students completed a graphic organizer, writing task, and an art project to demonstrate their learning. GO LEOPARDS!
Lawnwood Elementary teachers hosted parent conference night. Students shared their academic goals and progress monitoring data with their families. Teachers provided an action plan for each individual student and reminded parents of the grade level expectations. K-5 students of Lawnwood Elementary were recognized during the Quarter One Awards Assemblies. Students earned awards for Perfect Attendance, PAWS Behavior, Homework Hero, Principal’s Honor Roll, Honor Roll, Reading Log Completion, and for demonstrating extraordinary effort. GO LEOPARDS!
Lawnwood Leopards participated in a Vocabulary Parade! This vocabulary parade was inspired by a book called Miss Alaineus. The purpose of the parade is to help students learn interesting words and share their meanings and connections with others. This K-5 vocabulary parade was a hit! GO LEOPARDS!
Lawnwood Leopards take over Big Apple Pizza! A huge thank you goes out to Big Apple Pizza for hosting and sponsoring our Read to Succeed Book Night! Lawnwood students received a free book and a slice of delicious pizza! Way to Go LEOPARDS!
The third-grade students in Mrs. Santos’ class used manipulatives to deepen their understanding of area. Students solved problems involving area by using a visual model and a multiplication formula. Go Leopards!
The October Parent Night was a hit! All LWN families were invited to our Hispanic Heritage Celebration. Families toured the class projects, dined at the taco bar, and enjoyed a talent show. In addition, fifth grade students participated in a wax museum performance to honor the lives of Hispanic Americans like Roberto Clemente, Sonia Sotomayor, and Cesar Chavez. Go Leopards!
Lawnwood Leopards enjoyed their read-aloud time! The third-grade students in Mrs. Hammett’s class look forward to their daily read-aloud time. They are finishing a Captain Underpants Epic Novel. The students were engaged in the book because it has humor and action. In addition, Captain Underpants is a very empathetic character who is nice and kind to everyone. Continue to READ! Go LEOPARDS!
Each VPK- Grade 4 class completed a class project. Students studied various Hispanic countries and learned about the history and traditions of their country. A special thank you goes out to Mr. McCarthy, Ms. Barreto, Mrs. Tison, and Mrs. Jackson for serving as a judge during this competition. The scoring was based on creativity, content, originality, and organization. Lawnwood Leopards are deepening their understanding of cultural diversity. Go Leopards!
