Lawnwood Elementary Celebrates DAR Essay Contest Winners
Fifth grade students in Mrs. Collins’ accelerated class recently participated in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Essay Contest, demonstrating strong writing skills and a deep understanding of American history.
This year’s theme, “Lunch with a Signer,” invited students to imagine having a conversation with a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Students wrote from a first-person perspective, blending historical accuracy with creative storytelling to bring these important figures to life.
We are proud to share that the following students earned top honors through the Cora Stickney Harper Chapter:
1st Place: Laila Boykin
2nd Place: Kevin Viamonte
3rd Place: Elijah Yingling
In addition, all participating students received a Certificate of Participation in recognition of their effort, creativity, and dedication to the writing process.
Lawnwood Elementary is proud of these students for their hard work and for representing their school with excellence.
