West Gate K-8 Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Harris, surprised several of her former kinder students during their drive-through high school ceremonies by not only being there to celebrate their achievements, but also to personally hand deliver their diplomas.
West Gate K-8 teachers organized and distributed student items left at school before the closing. Following CDC and district guidelines, teachers practiced social distancing, wore protective masks, and shared some emotional good-byes as parents and students gathered their belongings.
Allapattah Flats K-8 Agriculture Program and FFA Chapter are new to the district and have worked hard to make a name for themselves this first year. Below are two big accomplishments the FFA Chapter made this year during the midst of Covid-19. The following contests were coached by the Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor Kristen Newell. Our latest Dell Certified Educators worked with experienced Dell EMC consultants and SLPS district leaders to integrate best practices in the application of technology to their instruction, curriculum, and assessment. On their path to becoming Certified Educators, each developed a personal goal to facilitate learning in a technology-rich, student-centered environment. Flattening the emotional curve: Elasticity and Resiliency During COVID-19 was the theme of a webinar offered in late April. Recently, Mrs. Elizabet Flores participated in the webinar that helps with strategies and tools to identify those students that need motivation for distance learning and how to deal with the stressful situation of COVID-19. She came away from the webinar with excellent tools to share.
Miss Quinones, first grade teacher at WMP, was selected as the Texas Roadhouse Teacher of the Year based on submissions from her students! She won a great gift basket and a free entrée at the restaurant every month for a YEAR! Way to go Miss Q!
St. Lucie Public Schools Math Curriculum Specialist, Christina Worley was just awarded a Kenneth Kidd Mini-Grant from the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The grant funds projects that enhance teacher and student understanding of mathematics. Ms. Worley’s grant proposal focused on teacher training in developing engaging ways for students to review math concepts. The funds will be used to purchase supplies for teachers to create “Escape Room” activities for students. Congratulations!
On Friday, May 15th, secondary music students in St. Lucie Public Schools and their teachers played “Lean on Me” in their yards to honor all those who have sacrificed so much during this Covid-19 pandemic. It was a touching tribute and a wonderful way to connect virtually with one another! Great job everyone!
