This year’s 34th Annual Business & Industry Awards, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and MIDFLORIDA Credit Union, was an evening to celebrate businesses and organizations in St. Lucie County that positively contribute to the area’s economic well-being and quality of life. Help Buick donate up to $10,000 to Ft. Pierce Westwood High School! Drivers 21 and older are invited to take a 2 – 3 minute test drive on November 3rd at Fort Pierce Westwood High School. Buick will donate $10 for the first 100 test drives and $20 per test drive after the school hits the 100 benchmark. The event is scheduled from 8 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, November 3rd.

Palm Pointe’s Environmental Club participated in the “A Day in the Life of the Indian River Lagoon” program on October 4th along with approximately 1,800 students and teachers from over 30 schools, with the help of over 30 natural resource expert organizations, engaged in hands-on science exploration at over 32 sampling sites along the Indian River Lagoon. Dan McCarty Middle School is stepping up their civics game this year! The local middle school was proud to welcome County Clerk Joseph Smith into the Eagles family for a visit to all seventh graders. It’s a state requirement for seventh graders to have a civic education, and Dan McCarty has found innovative ways of teaching the subject. Fourth grade students in Ms. Mellion’s class at Mariposa Elementary showed that matter matters! They were given an opportunity in science to show the three states of matter as well as describe their particles. Students used shoe boxes to display and create their projects. Students also presented their projects to the class for everyone to enjoy. Below are just some of the amazing examples the students created.
Students in Mr. Fess’ 8th grade Northstars STEM class are creating kites as part of their Flight & Space course. In addition to studying the history and predicted future of flight travel, students are learning the forces acting on flying objects and how aerodynamics can help improve the efficiency of flying objects.
First graders at Northport are learning all about matter. Thank you to Mrs. Esther Ruppel, one of our Big Brothers Big Sisters tutors, for providing the root beer floats for students to observe and enjoy. Science is so much fun!
On September 27, high school guidance counselors and graduation coaches from across the District had the privilege of touring and learning about five outstanding businesses in St. Lucie County. The stops included ABC Medical, The Porch Factory, Maverick Boat Group, Southern Eagle Distributing and PGA Golf Club. While on the tour, participants learned about job opportunities for students that address the skills gap, as identified by the Economic Development Council, in the areas of healthcare, manufacturing and skill trades.
Northport Safety Patrol Pancake Breakfast rocked at Applebee’s Sunday morning. The patrols worked hard serving family and friends to earn money for their end-of-year trip! They did an amazing job and had fun too! Thank you to everyone who came out or donated! ❤
