Congratulations to Gaines Academy students: Lorena Ramirez-Garcia, Sedre Wright, Brandon Davis, and Nira Troublefield for being selected to the Indian River State College’s Four County Honor Band.  The Four County Honor Band is comprised of students from St. Lucie, Indian River, Martin, and Okeechobee Counties.  These students will spend roughly 15 hours over the course of three days in rehearsal with guest clinician Dr. Shelby Chipman, Associate Professor of Music at Florida A&M University, and perform a concert at the end of the clinic.

On Friday, January 15, fourth grade students attended a presentation by the Port Saint Lucie Botanical Gardens and the Keep Port Saint Lucie Beautiful about Arbor Day and the Fourth Grade Foresters Program. Students learned about growing a Sabal Palm and received their own Sabal Palm to take and plant at home. The trees were generously donated by Keep Port Saint Lucie Beautiful and Waste Pro.

Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition would like to thank all the students and staff who donated the 850 plus teddy bears for the Teddies for Tots Drive.  This project was done during Kindness Week.  The bears were donated to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Department, and Sheriff Mascara came out to Palm Pointe to pick up all the bears.  These bears will be given to children in crisis throughout our community.  Pictured with administration is Sheriff Mascara and several deputies in his department.  Also pictured are students from Alison Perry’s fourth grade class who donated over sixty bears … Read More

On Monday, January 18, 2016, students and staff at St. Lucie Elementary honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by participating in the MLK Parade. The parade commemorates the life of civil rights leader and icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Students and staff participated in the Parade with signs in hand to celebrate in remembrance of his outstanding achievements and how they changed the course of history. SLE students continue to be active in their community and strive to maintain Dr. King’s vision.

Congratulations to Ashlynne Murray, a fourth grade student from Fairlawn Elementary Magnet School, who placed first in the MLK Spelling Bee.  Other Fairlawn participants included Benny Leger, Ricardo Ramirez, and Megan Brooks.  Fairlawn is proud of their super spellers!

DMMS staff members are participating in an Eric Jensen’s Teaching with Poverty in Mind book study.

Ms. Debra Snyder, Principal at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition along with Debborah Estrada, Dean of Discipline and Chairperson of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee proudly accept the Second Place trophy for Kindness Week.  Palm Pointe’s school-wide project involved collecting over 840 teddy bears from students and staff .  The “Teddies for Tots” were given to Sheriff Mascara to give out to children in crisis throughout the community.

A special thanks to Mr. Calhoun, Mr. Smith, and Mr. Lowe from the Rotary Club of Ft. Pierce, who generously presented dictionaries to all third grade students at Frances K. Sweet Elementary Magnet School.  They were greatly appreciated!

Northport K-8 School presented a noteworthy performance at the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade held recently in Ft. Pierce. The weather was beautiful and the students, parents, and staff were thrilled to participate in such a wonderful and traditional event to help enhance community relations and mark the day with a flourish. On January 11th, Dyujae (Biko) Gayman scored his 1,000th basketball point as a Lincoln Park Academy Greyhound.  The LPA family of students, teachers, staff, and coaches are very proud of his accomplishment.  Congratulations Biko!!

Third grade students at Bayshore Elementary were visited on Tuesday, Januray 19, by members of the Lions Club. Mr. James Coy and Mrs. Sandra Coy presented our third graders dictionaries as part of a campaign by the local Lions and Rotary Clubs. This year, both clubs have joined to provide all third grades in Saint Lucie County with dictionaries. Our students are very grateful for their generous gesture.

Northport K-8 School is pleased to present our 2016 Annual Science and Engineering Fair award recipients. Our students competed in numerous fields of science. All awarded scientists based their experimental research on trying to answer and solve real world problems. They showed creativity in scientific thinking and a desire to help mankind by providing solutions to real issues. First, second, and third place awards were given in each category of science. On Monday, January 18, Bayshore students, parents, and staff participated in the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Parade. This year’s theme “Dream Forward: Choose Peace, Equality, and Change” inspired the float design that represented our school.

This year’s District nominee for STEM Sunshine State Scholar is Bailey Magers from Treasure Coast High School. Bailey, along with his parents and a teacher, who has served as a significant influence to him, will travel to Orlando May 19 – 20, 2016, for an extraordinary two-day program.  In addition to bringing together the scholars to be honored, the foundation invites representatives from Florida’s colleges and universities to meet with the students and discuss career and post-secondary opportunities available to them in Florida. Mrs. Jamie Spooner‘s Honors English classes participated in the Great Thanksgiving Listen between the Thanksgiving and Winter Break.  This project, developed by NPR and StoryCorps,  allowed the students to interview friends, family, and important role models to allow their memory and voice to be saved to the Library of Congress.  It helped the students to continue to grow as communicators during their study of American literature.

TCHS is proud to announce that Mr. Luke Hall is a recipient of the Tom Bishop award for 2016. This is a very prestigious award given by the Florida Band Association to select band directors in the state. The criteria includes significant improvement in MPA scores and an increase in overall band membership numbers during their tenure.
