F.K. Sweet Elementary is very fortunate to have former teacher Tom Filipkowski return to volunteer his time in continuing the ever popular Chess Club on Thursday mornings. The Chess Club has always been a favorite with intermediate students. Not only are the skills of the game and high level thinking covered, but the love of the game and sportsmanship is also stressed.

Northport K-8 second grader Breanna Guillaume and her classmates learned an excellent lesson in character development recently. One day, U. S. Army veteran Bill Arnold was visiting the school, and he lost his keys.  Breanna found the keys, and ran up to Mr. Arnold to return them. Kindergarten and First grade had so much fun during our annual St. Lucie West K-8 School Character Book Parade! During the week, students in both MySchool Virtual and brick and mortar read a favorite book, completed an engaging book report project, and then, on Friday, dressed-up as their favorite characters from their books! During the parade, students got to show their classmates and teachers their character book costumes. Kindergarten and First grade teachers joined the fun by dressing-up too. WAY TO GO SHARKS!

Fourth Grade students in Ms. Denman’s class have been learning that writers can tell the same story in more than one genre, such as a drama, novel, or short story. As an extension of this unit, students were tasked with comparing and contrasting characters’ words and actions in one of their favorite stories to the movie version. Students had a great time digging deeper into character analysis, not only across writing genres, but also in the film genre!

A news crew from WPTV News Channel 5 spent much of the early morning Tuesday, August 21, interviewing the staff of St. Lucie Schools’ newest instructional choice for parents and students, Mosaic Digital Academy virtual K-12 school. As the first gold status school on the Treasure Coast and a champion of the Everglades, Morningside Elementary was proud to host this learning opportunity for teachers around St. Lucie County. The teachers participated in some of the activities designed for students in K-5 classrooms. They created posters of endangered Everglades animals, created a 3D representation of the watershed system, raced to match the animals with the habitats they are found in, and spent the morning learning about this essential part of our ecosystem.

Memories: A Winter Holiday Concert Ushering in the cheeriest season of the year is greeted by FPC’s Performing Arts concerts and performance celebrations. Congratulations to Central’s Track and Field team on their victory with the Cobra Relay. The team placed first in the county. Our Cobras will be back at Lawnwood Stadium to celebrate their senior night and compete in the St. Lucie County Championship meet. Go Cobras!

On May 16, Fort Pierce Central’s Special Olympics Rising Stars athletes teamed up with parents and volunteers to have a fun-filled day of events. Students played bowling, corn-hole, and basketball, among other sports. Special thanks go to Coach Jeanie Glenton and Coach Peter Crespo for use of their equipment and facilities. On Monday, April 15th, Student Government Associations from Fort Pierce Central and Westwood High Schools were recognized at the City of Fort Pierce Commission Meeting with a special proclamation for Student Leadership Week. Students from both schools interacted with City Commissioners and met with the Mayor, Linda Hudson, as a special proclamation was enacted to recognize their work in government at the school level.

Fort Pierce Central High School continued its commitment to environmental stewardship and community beautification with its annual tree planting event, proudly hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA). SGA continued the Tree Restoration Project this year by planting our second Oak Tree in as many years. Student volunteers gathered on the school grounds to plant the tree, further enhancing the campus’s natural landscape and contributing to a greener future for generations to come.
