Fort Pierce Central’s NHS Cares: Awareness and Prevention of Suicide

NHS Cobras Care! September was National Suicide Awareness and Prevention month. The Fort Pierce Central National Honor Society took an active role in this critically important campaign. During a September meeting, NHS members were given blank colored index cards and asked to write positive affirmations and words of encouragement. These cards were placed on courtyard facing windows for students passing by, transitioning from class to class, to take. These cards were meant to be informative, uplifting, and passed on. Fort Pierce Central’s very own Makaria Sandlin has qualified to compete at the NSDA (National Speech and Debate Association) National Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona, June 11-16, 2023. Central’s Key Club Makes the Season Bright

Tis the busy season for good works by the Fort Pierce Central Key Club! Sponsor Mrs. Denise Peschio and 100 members participated in the Fort Pierce Sights and Sounds Parade in early December. Then, volunteers helped at the annual Rivers Ridge Elementary School’s Holiday shop. Next, Key Club added some holiday decor at Chester A. Moore Elementary School. Finally, Key Club members helped bag gifts for the local, annual Toys for Tots.

Central’s Key Club in Pumpkin Season

On a typical sweltering south Florida Friday afternoon, Key Club members helped set up the Pumpkin Patch at the Frist United Methodist Church. The church raises over $40,000 in pumpkin sales to help the community. Way to go FPC Key Club!

Central’s Hispanic Heritage Celebration

Friday, September, 20th, Fort Pierce Central hosted its annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration staff luncheon. On April 3 Principal Gardner and representatives from the Fort Pierce Central High School Exceptional Student Education department (Jocelyn Gumbs, Deana Hadley, and Jeannette Baechle) visited Indian River State College to learn more about the Project STAGE program. They were given a tour of the campus, and they heard from Project STAGE students about the students’ experiences in the program. Indian River State College Culinary Institute and Hospitality and Tourism Program hosted an educational tour for FPC’s Culinary students.  During the visit, the students were able to participate in the youtube simulcast of the No Vacancy Live podcast with Glenn Haussman and Anthony Melchiorri; and the guest was Greg Juceam, the President and CEO of Extended Stay America. Friends, Fun, & Cobra Community FPC held its annual fall Club Rush or student involvement fair on Friday, September 8th. During both lunches, Cobra Nation’s courtyard was flooded with students being welcomed and introduced to over 20 student organizations, clubs, and unique interest groups.
