Circuit Judge, Prosecutor, and Public Defender Visit St. Lucie West Centennial High Schools’ Law Academy

St. Lucie West Centennial High Schools’ Law Academy (criminal justice program) welcomed Judge Rebecca White with Anastasia Norman (prosecutor) and Jennifer Nelson (public defender) from the Circuit Court. There was a panel discussion for each guest speaker to explain their roles in the pretrial process and the criminal justice system as a whole. This presentation was very engaging for students as speakers provided realistic case discussion, recommendations for future professionals, benefits and challenges of their career.  

Cinco de Mayo at Gaines Academy

Cinco de Mayo is not going unnoticed here at Samuel Gaines Academy. Students in Mr. Plowden’s 8th grade History spent some time researching different Hispanic leaders who has made significant contributions to their culture by creating Thinking Maps, taking Cornell notes, and using technology resources.  This is a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage and is warmly embraced at Gaines Academy.

On Tuesday, September 17 four Culinary Institute of America (CIA) chefs presented CIA at St Lucie West Centennial High.  Over 92 high school students from St Lucie West Centennial (SLWC), Fort Pierce Central, and Martin County High participated in four workshops: Chef Donald Sedivy-CIA Graduate and local Chef working in prestigious Private Clubs demonstrated a Garde Manger appetizer (chopped fresh veggies showcasing Florida tomatoes, mangos, avocados, and lump crab meat); Chef Harrison Kantor-2013 CIA graduate prepared an ethic dish of Falafel with Tahini Sauce; Chef Arnym Solomon-CIA Trustee Emeriti prepared Caribbean Style Stews; and Chef Jacqui Pressinger- CIA Assistant Director … Read More

Choices For Viewing The Eclipse

We have a unique opportunity on Monday, August 21! This will be the first time in 99 years that a total solar eclipse will cross the nation coast-to-coast. In Florida, as the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, it will only partially block the Sun making it look like early evening in the middle of the day. Child Nutrition Services Farm to School Program

Child Nutrition Services is proud to announce for the 2017-2018 school year we offered the students of St. Lucie Public Schools over 219,000 pounds of Florida grown produce, over 53,000 pounds of Florida beef, and over 6,400,000 half pints of milk on school serving lines as part of the Farm to School Program. As we begin the fifth year of the Farm to School Program we are increasing the amount of Florida grown produce to twenty items that of our original seven when the program started in 2015. Child Nutrition Services Cook’s Training

At St. Lucie Public Schools we pride ourselves on our fresh, made-from-scratch meals. Each one of our schools has a dedicated chef to prepare all of our breakfasts and lunches. Last week our cooks came together to learn some of the recipes that are new on this year’s lunch menu. Not only are they talented with their cooking skills, but our cooks are also passionate about everything they do to ensure our students are fed well every day!

Child Nutrition Services Baker’s Training

Did you know that each of our school’s cafeterias has a dedicated baker to make fresh baked menu items for our students? Last week our bakers were hard at work training to ensure the highest quality products are served at each of our schools. All of our bakeries are made with whole wheat and comply with the National School Lunch Program guidelines.

Child Nutrition Services Back to School Training

Last week, over 300 of our food service staff attended a back-to-school training at the MidFlorida Event Center. We had break-out sessions for our managers, cooks, bakers, and food service assistants. Leadership, food safety, standardized recipes, and teamwork were the major topics discussed. Chief Context Clue and Shark Detectives are on the Case at St. Lucie West K-8

In Ms. Paries’ third-grade ELA classes, Chief Context Clue, along with her brilliant detectives, were on a mission to decode the mysteries hidden within words. Their teamwork centered around narrowing down unknown words by examining surrounding clues and context. Each detective brought their unique skills and engagement to the case! Chicks in Kindergarten!

The kindergarten students in Ms. Ham’s class at Oak Hammock K-8 have four new fluffy additions to their classroom.  In September, we studied farm animals and what animals need to survive.  As a culminating activity, we received eggs from the 4-H farm in Fort Pierce to incubate.  We learned what was happening inside of the eggs in the incubator each day for twenty-one days and are so happy to announce that our chicks are finally here! We’ve been taking great care of them and love having extra friends in our room!

Chicks at CAST

Kindergarten students at CAST have been observing the life cycle of chickens and they finally hatched! We named the chicks – “Little Chick, Baconator, Hardy, and Miss Flower.” Students wrote about the chicks hatching and enjoyed petting them.  

‘Chick’ Us Out at CAST

Kindergarten students at CAST are observing the life cycle of chickens! They partnered with the local 4H extension office for this embryology unit. Kindergarteners will watch eggs incubate over the next 21 days and journal about how the eggs are changing on the inside. We can’t wait for the eggs to hatch!
