On February 20, 2015, Dan McCarty School’s Student Council President Tiferne Jean, along with Student Council Sponsors Dr. Christopher Pierre and Ms. Rhoda Butler, and treasurer Ladarious Burk,  attended the monthly social: Breakfast with the Mayor of the City of Fort Pierce. Mr. Jean had the opportunity to speak in front of some very prominent community leaders and business owners such as City Representative Larry Lee, Executive Director of Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF) Doug Coward, and Mayor Linda Hudson. Dan McCarty staff and students appreciate resource officer Hogan

St. Lucie County sheriff’s deputy and school resource officer Todd Hogan, a former sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, recently visited Dan McCarty School and spoke with eighth grade students in the “Elite Eight” program, which features students who have expressed an interest in participating in community service and becoming better students. Dan McCarty Singing Eagles Earn Superior Rating For Inspiring Performance

The Singing Eagles Choir from Dan McCarty Middle School recently participated in the District 13 Music Performance Assessment earning straight “Superior” ratings. The choir received an “A” rating from all four judges in performance and sight-reading. In addition, the students were highly praised for their performance. The chorus is directed by Dr. Rolanda A. Jones.

Dan McCarty School team wins Project Citizen state title

The state finals, held May 24 in West Palm Beach, were the culmination of the nearly year-long effort by the class to identify and problem-solve a community public policy issue. The class Project Citizen project, “Vote to Make Fort Pierce Better: Voting Counts,” hopes to increase voter registration and voter participation in local, state, and national elections. A team of eight students representing the class made their oral presentation to a team of community judges. St. Lucie Public Schools had three teams participating in the state finals. Dan McCarty School team competes in regional science bowl

A team of middle grades students from Dan McCarty School recently competed in the Space Coast Science Education Alliance Regional Science Bowl in Melbourne, Florida. After practicing for weeks under the direction of science teacher Holly Kaas, the students made the trip on a Saturday to participate.  The team made it through two grueling rounds before defeat.  Pictured, from left, are Coach Kaas and team members Micoy O’Meally, Meshun Atkins, Colton Gillman, Jonathan Ordonez and Edmundo Moreno.  St. Lucie Public Schools’ K-12 Science Title 1 Curriculum Supervisor District Science Coordinator Steven Shotola, far right, was also on hand to support the team.     

Dan McCarty School staff, students and guests celebrate Circle of Hope

Students and staff of Dan McCarty School recently gathered around the school track  to create the Circle of Hope and show support for cancer victims, survivors and research.  Assistant Principal Luvenia Morgan welcomed and thanked everyone, and Annie Kate Jackson, cancer survivor and Secretary of the American Cancer Society, made brief remarks.  Dan McCarty School band director Richard Shaw sang to close the gathering.  Many students and staff wore purple or pink to show support as well.  Staff and students of Dan McCarty School were proud to participate in this moving and important event.        

Dan McCarty School – Feeding Our Children in Need

Child hunger is not just a health problem; it is an education problem as well. When a child is hungry they cannot focus on their studies because they do not know where their next meal is coming from, this is called food insecurity. In a recent Feeding America study, St. Lucie County has a food insecurity rate at 26.7%. Grace Packs is a weekly weekend backpack program that provides necessary food items to students in need. Dan McCarty will be starting this program for its students in need this Friday, April 11.

Dan McCarty School to celebrate 60 years

Dan McCarty school will celebrate its 60th birthday on Nov. 9, 2013. All former and present faculty and students are invited to come to the gym and reminisce. The gym is an original building and holds many memories for students and faculty alike. The celebration will begin at 2 p.m. and continue on in the cafeteria with refreshments and a slideshow.

Dan McCarty School begins Citizen of the Month honors program

Students and staff at Dan McCarty School recently celebrated the school’s first Citizens of the Month at a special breakfast. Each nonored student received a certificate and a goody bag. Citizens of the Month are selected at Dan McCarty for upholding the Eagle Expectations to act responsibly, to give respect, to be ready to learn, so everyone is safe. Dan McCarty Represented at IRSC’s 2015 Four Counties Honors Band Concert

Dan McCarty Middle School band student, Samuel Quinones, has been selected to take part in the 2015 Indian River State College’s Four Counties Honors Band. Selected middle school students will rehearse for two days with guest clinician, Mr. Dominick Eggan and perform alongside the High School Honors Concert Band and the Honors Jazz Band. Samuel was selected based on his musicianship level and the recommendation of his band director. He will be one of four trombonists from the four counties of St. Lucie, Indian River, Martin, and Okeechobee counties. The concert will be held on Saturday, January 24th at 6:00 … Read More

Dan McCarty Million Father March Kickoff a Success!

Dan McCarty participated in the National Million Father March Initiative in recognition of the power of male involvement in the education of all students. The Million Father March is an opportunity for all men to show their commitment to the educational lives of their children throughout the school year. Over two dozen fathers brought their children to school and walked them to class to show their support of this national initiative. The father s then joined the administrative staff in the media center for some refreshments. What an awesome way to kick off the school year!

Dan McCarty Middle School proudly came together to support American Heart Month as staff members wore red and participated in their annual school photo to show unity and awareness. It was a great day on campus that highlighted both community and collaboration. Dan McCarty Middle School proudly hosted its Third Annual Black History Program, and each year this celebration continues to grow in impact, excellence, and community engagement. The evening featured powerful student performances that reflected confidence, culture, and scholarship. Through music, spoken word, dance, and dramatic presentations, our students honored the legacy of Black leaders with poise and authenticity. Dan McCarty Middle School – Food Pantry

On Tuesday 2/25, Mrs. Natta, 8th grade school counselor, was interviewed by the Treasure Coast Food Bank regarding the success of the Dan McCarty Food and Teen Pantry. In October of 2023, a student inspired Mrs. Natta and the school counseling department to start a food and teen pantry to help all our students and their families. The DMMS food pantry provides food like rice, canned goods, pasta, and chicken to our families, while the teen pantry provides items like soap, shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste.
