Southport Student Wins Third Place!

“The Right to Vote” was this year’s theme for The Friends of the Rupert J. Law Library’s Annual Law Day Celebration student art and essay contest. Northport K-8 Students Host Mayor Joanne Faiella

Northport K-8 School kindergarten students in Melody Nieves hosted Port St. Lucie mayor, Joanne Faiella recently. Mayor Faiella graciously accepted the invitation by Big Brothers, Big Sisters AmeriCorps tutor, Alex Neelan who tutors several of the kindergarten students. Mrs. Nieves prepared the students by having them make welcome signs in the front office, on the classroom door and in the classroom. Oak Hammock 7th Grade Students Investigate Adaptations of Darwin’s Finches

Students in Ms. Seaton’s 7th grade science class spent some time using different tools which simulate the various possible beaks that birds on the Galapagus Islands have. Students made hypotheses then tested the efficiency of each beak, and then went on to do increased competition as resources dwindled. They were able to make the connection between their hands on experience and how adaptations and competition affects survival of the fittest. Lakewood Park Elementary Students Roar Through FCAT

Lakewood Park Elementary Teachers, Principal Dianne Young and Assistant Principal Tammy Smith dance to the music “Roar” for grades 3rd through 5th at three different Prep Rallies.  Students also played the game “Are you smarter than a third, fourth, or fifth grader.”  Some teachers also participated in FCAT Crunch for third, fourth and fifth grades.  Students you make us proud!! FPC JROTC Cadet slected for 2014 Girls State

Every year, local students fill out an application, write two essays and are interviewed to compete for a spot to go to Tallahassee for a chance to experience and participate in our states government. Southport Middle School makes language learning fun and exciting for students and their families

Parents and students in the After School Language Learning Lab are delighted to spend their time in the Media Center learning English, Spanish, and French using the Rosetta Stone computer program. International Sailing Federation Youth World Championship Team Member

Lincoln Park Academy senior, Luke Muller, has been selected as one of twelve to compete in the 2014 International Sailing Federation Youth World Championship Team Regatta in Tavira, Portugal, on July 12-19, 2014. Luke is a member of the Lincoln Park Academy International Baccalaureate program, has been nominated and appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and has been accepted for admission to Stanford University. Lawnwood media specialist represents the faculty in dodgeball

Lawnwood Elementary Media Specialist, Mrs. Schaeperkoetter, represented her faculty team in April’s PBS challenge. The teachers joined a team of kindergarteners in  a game of dodge ball during the annual and popular award event.  The students worked for several weeks collecting “Lawnwood loot ” behavior rewards to participate in the friendly challenge, which included PE coaches, resource, and kindergarten teachers.

Kickball: Students vs. the Faculty

To culminate a recent Principal’s Reading Challenge, the top readers in grades 3-5 played kickball against Weatherbee Faculty.  All other students who obtained their goal were spectators for this event.  We won’t say who won, but a fun time was had by all!  

Northport Teachers and Students Vie for Championship Title

Northport K-8 teachers, staff and students went head to head recently in a playoff basketball game in the school gymnasium. Students participated in an FCAT pep rally and wrapped the afternoon up with a basketball game that thrilled not only the middle school students but the staff and teachers as well. The students drove hard but could not beat the teachers. A rematch will be held after the final FCAT test is wrapped up and shipped. TCHS – AFJROTC Students Celebrate at State Drill Meet

Congratulations to the Treasure Coast High School Air Force JROTC Drill team on their accomplishments during the State Drill Meet on April 5th.  Color Guard Commander C/Lt Col Henrik Kristiansen earned fourth place as well as third place as Team Commander.  The Armed Exhibition team commanded by C/Maj Sebastian Quick earned third place.  Looking forward to an even stronger performance in future years.

FK Sweet Second Graders Learn About the Citrus Industry

The students in Mrs. Traci Lott’s second grade class had a wonderful time on their field trip to Al’s Family Farms. Students had the opportunity to learn about the citrus industry with a guided tour of the packing house. Students were able to learn about Florida citrus from the time it was planted until the time it was picked and cleaned and then finally packed for delivery or sold to consumers. All the students agree that the best part was the samples of oranges, orange juice, and the delicious orange ice cream.

Academic A Team

On April 10th to April 12th St. Lucie County Academic Team competed in the State Academic competition held at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. St. Lucie County’s team came in second place, just seven points shy of first. The team scored the highest of any team in one of the rounds of competition with 391 points. The students that represented St. Lucie County were Geoffrey Zeheng from Lincoln Park Academy, William Barr and Nicole Molner from Treasure Coast High, Jeremy Johnson and Lauren Herb from Westwood High and Stephanie Fisher from St. Lucie West Centennial high.

Lawnwood’s TOP Teacher Selected for the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teacher’s Academy!

Lawnwood Elementary teacher of the year, Ashlay Parker , has been selected to attend the ExxonMobil Academy. The selection panel based their decision on Ms. Parker’s “qualifications, dedication to inspiring students, and overall commitment to enhancing the teaching profession.” This selection gives Ms. Parker an opportunity to network with other educators and help her discover innovative ways to teach math and science to her students.
