Northport K-8 Students Host Mayor Joanne Faiella

Northport K-8 School kindergarten students in Melody Nieves hosted Port St. Lucie mayor, Joanne Faiella recently. Mayor Faiella graciously accepted the invitation by Big Brothers, Big Sisters AmeriCorps tutor, Alex Neelan who tutors several of the kindergarten students.

Mrs. Nieves prepared the students by having them make welcome signs in the front office, on the classroom door and in the classroom. Students were thrilled to hear about the duties of the mayors job and Mrs. Faiella answered the question so eloquently that the kindergarteners eagerly asked more questions. Mayor Faiella spoke about her experiences teaching in a private school and the duties of the mayor. She discussed street lights, side walk safety and the procedure for citizens to get problems solved. The mayor invited the students to take a field trip to City Hall and then to take a walk to the Port St. Lucie Police Department and told the students that she was thrilled to post their pictures in City Hall. The kindergartners realized that the mayor can listen to issues and then solve problems. They realized that the mayor works for the people of Port St. Lucie.

Northport K-8 School thanks the mayor for her time and her willingness to help the students develop an interest in government and the issues of the day which are so vital to the well being of the community.
