Fairlawn’s Citizens

Fairlawn Elementary 2nd-grade students learned all about the qualities of a good citizen in August.  The students studied the various symbols that represent the United States of America.

Fairlawn’s Bahamian Fundraiser

Fairlawn Elementary students represented the Bahamas by wearing either the colors of the flag (gold, black, and aqua) or the actual flag itself.  The students were thrilled to continue the support for Hurricane Dorian relief.  All together the students raised over $670 dollars.

Fairlawn’s Back to School Luau

Fairlawn hosted their annual back-to-school luau Friday, August 23rd. Students, staff, and families had an amazing time dancing, playing games, and spending time together. Thank you to all those who came out for the fun!

Fairlawn Elementary kicked off back to school with an amazing back-to-school luau dance.  The students, parents, and staff had a blast celebrating what is going to be a fantastic school year.  We love our positive school culture!

Fairlawn’s Art Amazes

Creativity continues as our third grade students paint their slab pottery “fish dishes.”  Mr. Gelardo’s art students amaze us with their talents each and every day.

Fairlawn’s Aladdin Jr. at Riverside

Fairlawn students in grades three to five dazzled Friday night in their performance of Aladdin Jr. at Riverside Theater in Vero Beach. Under the direction of music teacher Mrs. Quillinan, students have been practicing since January and their hard work was evident as they wowed the audience with their amazing performance!

Fairlawn’s 4th Graders Dig Deep

4th graders at Fairlawn Elementary dug deep into the history of the Ais Indians with a visit from the Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast! This included trading beads with other “tribes” to make necklaces, creating clay pottery, and uncovering artifacts.

Fairlawn’s 3rd Grade Scoots

Mrs. Power’s third grade class at Fairlawn Elementary reviewed for their district math test by participating in a scoot around the room.  Students had a blast moving around the room solving problems and working as a team.

Fairlawn’s 2nd Grade Pumpkin Day

All 2nd grade students at Fairlawn Elementary used pumpkins to complete a hands-on math activity.  Students worked in groups to count how many seeds their pumpkin had, calculate the circumference of their pumpkin, the weight of the pumpkin, and estimate how tall their pumpkin was.  The lesson was highly engaging, and the students had a “gord” time.

Fairlawn Welcomes Grandparents

On Friday, September 8th, grandparents and families were welcomed to Fairlawn to celebrate Grandparent’s Day! Students were able to eat lunch with their grandparents and thank them for all they do! The Patriots value our school and home families! 

Fairlawn Welcomes Families for Title I Curriculum Night

Fairlawn Elementary Magnet School was excited to host families for our first Title I Curriculum Night of the year—a special evening dedicated to building strong school-home partnerships and fostering student success. Families had the opportunity to explore classroom learning goals, gain insight into the nuances of state testing, and discover how Title I resources enhance academic achievement. Teachers shared strategies for reinforcing learning at home, and families engaged in meaningful conversations about how to support their children’s education. It was a successful night filled with collaboration, connection, and community spirit, reflecting Fairlawn’s commitment to excellence and inclusive family engagement.

Fairlawn Vocabulary Parade

Fairlawn’s celebration of literacy week wrapped up with a school-wide vocabulary parade.  Parents were treated to a parade of creativity as our students marched around the school displaying their new vocabulary words and costumes to match.

Fairlawn Students Support Troops

Fairlawn Elementary students in Shirley Helton’s Fifth Grade class are corresponding with troops in Afghanistan. Students are sending care packages and hand-written notes to the soldiers. They also e-mail and skype with the troops giving them words of encouragement and asking many questions about life in Afghanistan. Fairlawn Students Shine Bright at Riverside Theatre

Fairlawn Students put on the performance of a lifetime this past Friday night at Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach.  Students from grades three to five practiced for months to present “Finding Nemo” to friends, families, and staff in the audience.  Under the direction of Mrs. Deborah Quillinan, Fairlawn’s music teacher, the students are able to experience this rare opportunity of partnering with the local theatre to bring their big dreams to life.   The students swam and sang their way into the hearts of all who were able to join us.  Congratulations on a job well done, and we look forward … Read More

Fairlawn Students Make the Score

Fairlawn Elementary School made the SWEET 16 for TTM’s National Contest – The March Math Madness. This means that across the entire country, Fairlawn is in the final 16 schools! This contest allows schools to compete against schools around the country to decide who has the highest average of passed lessons per active student! This is a National Contest with thousands of schools participating!

Fairlawn Students Honor Highwaymen

5th grade students at Fairlawn Elementary honored the Highwaymen by painting iconic scenes from the Indian River. Their pictures will be displayed at the 6th Annual Highwaymen Show next month in Fort Pierce.

Fairlawn Students Going to Michigan

Fairlawn Elementary School’s Intermediate Odyssey of the Mind team has earned a spot to compete in the World Competition to take place in Lansing, Michigan in May. Odyssey of the Mind teaches students to problem-solve in a creative way. Students are encouraged to “think outside the box” in order to solve open ended long-term and spontaneous problems. Students prepare a solution to a long-term problem with given parameters to present at competition. They also must solve a short problem given on the spot, called a spontaneous. Fairlawn students enjoy an Earth Day celebration

Students in Shirley Helton’s fifth grade class at Fairlawn Elementary School celebrated Earth Day by writing poems and composing songs to honor our Earth. The culminating activity was to make and enjoy dirt pudding. Pictured are Brooks Holmes, left, and Jacob Ridle sharing their poems.

Fairlawn students are rolling in the dough

The kindergarten students learn science through a hands-on experience making a pizza. The students were able to see matter change its shape and property through the process. Christina Silva-Mejias from Loutina’s Pizza  helped the students make pizza. The students applied their sequence skills that they learned from reading “Pizza at Sally’s”  a book about the steps someone takes to make pizza. After making pizza, the students used a flow map to write about the sequences to make a pizza. Pictured are William Kicklighter, left, and Kielan Holland.
